Barrel Bung Plug Stopper

My wife and I bought a real wine barrel from a winery, but it needs to be protected from bugs. I found this to be useful. I’ve learned that wine barrels need to stay moist to stay in good shape, so I include that last piece of information for anyone who’s interested in wine barrels.

My courtyard and patio were filled with three of these. They were used to hold three wine barrels I stained. I used the same stain and the plugs match perfectly, so that was a bonus. As we were moving into our new home, and the barrels in the courtyard had only been there a day, bees moved into them. That inspired me to buy them. These were perfect for us as we already have the africanized bees, so we had them removed, taped up holes, and ordered these.

I had been using my old 53 gallon barrels for decades and was ready to retire them for decorations. I could not find a nice looking bung, and I did not want to use an airlock. With its high quality and attractive appearance, this was perfect. The color is a dark mahogany, a little darker than in the picture, but I am still The order was shipped out ninja fast. My whiskey barrel was a perfect fit for this. It does not matter that the bung hole has been compromised any more. Now that all the bung activity has subsided, things are quiet. Though it is a bit pricey for what it is, money is no object when it comes to protecting bung holes.
