Questions & Answers

Who makes it? Where in the world is it ?

There is no indication of which State it is. The piece is most definitely made in the United States by an artisan woodworker. I want to say California, but I don't know for sure. The one I have was purchased about two years ago, and I do not receive any commissions. It was a large investment, but we could not be more pleased with our press it makes beautiful, thin tortillas, and if you want to make flat bread, you can do that also. It is just a matter of not pressing so hard and so often. That's all I have for now.

In what way are the external dimensions defined?

A total of 11 footprints are created. The width of the picture is 5 inches and the height is The following is a description of 5 long and 5 short. The height of the image is 5". 16" is the length of the handle.

Are you able to press pie crust with this device? I appreciated it! ?

You'll have to try it to see, but I would guess that it would depend on the texture of your If there are too many pies, it might prove hard for the press to handle them. There is no such thing as pie dough that is as stiff as tortilla It would be better to use a rolling pin for the purpose. This is purely my opinion, so please disregard.

A press that can't be beat
5/5

I am in awe of this press. I'm just in love with it. The first time you try it is a success. When I first started working on my novel, I bought a Victoria cast iron press after reading reviews about how it was the "Rolls Royce" after I had my chance to put it together and have a look at it, I read all the reviews about how cast iron presses crack, the handles break, and other such things, There were also complaints about not being able to get their tortillas, rotis, etc thin enough and that we still had to roll them with a pin to get them to the right How'd that happen? I began to wonder whether I had done the right thing by purchasing the book. As soon as I made the decision, it became apparent that I was making the wrong decision The cast iron press will be returned The goal was to invest in the press we truly believed would give us the results we were looking for, and to have a tool that would accomplish our goal at its inception. This year's Mother's Day / Father's Day gift that my husband and I made is our Mother's Day / Father's Day gift to each other. This purchase was an investment for our budget, but I will admit this press has been a joy. (I'd make tortillas, rotis, flatbreads, etc. and he'd receive hand made goods. ) Is both an object to admire and enjoy using as well as an object It took me six hours to make six It was my first time making corn tortillas, and I cooked them on my little cast iron griddle (10" Lodge). My family and I were happy with our choice of wedding rings, and I knew we had made the right In short, you should invest in a product that is a pleasure to own, that will serve you for a lifetime, and that will deliver great (thin-pressed) results from the beginning. The press to buy is this one. As a rule of thumb, I did choose the largest size in order to provide myself with some wiggle space and to be as flexible There is no way to make larger items using a smaller press, but you can always produce smaller items using a larger one! This is a rare item in an age of mass produced semi-disposable products and I am thrilled that our purchase supported a California artist and his wife, and that makes me smile. There is no doubt that this press will serve us well at least for the rest of our lives and can then be passed on to a grandchild or daughter (if she doesn't already own one herself by then). Anyhow, this was a memorable and favored Amazon purchase that has been nothing short of a genuine delight. You can use it right away. If you are looking for a quality and durable item that will last for many years, I recommend this press or one similar. There are several models to choose from, so you are sure to find one that is right for you. I honestly can't imagine how In the last several weeks, we have enjoyed using this press a great deal. It's easily within our top five favorite Amazon purchases of all time. Our family will be grateful to have located such an outstanding product for the rest As I have gained experience I would like to highlight a few tips that have helped me. The masa can be made with the help of lard or even butter, and we can easily make up to ten wafer thin corn tortillas. I mean it. Not a rollig to be found. There have been a couple of different materials that I have tried to line the press with Clean recycled grocery bags cut to approximately 11 x 11" squares. Padding, ziplock bag material and ziplock bag material. The most favorite material of mine to use is the inelegant grocery store shopping bags cut into Despite this, the plastic is still thin enough to allow the masa to spread out, but without being so thick that the fragile, thin tortillas begin to tear when removed from it, as they did with ziplock bags (commonly recommended). In the end, I wash the pieces of plastic, dry them between two dish towels, and then store them with the press until we need it again in the future. I had to experiment in order to find the best method for me and wanted to share it in hopes that it might be of use to others. In order to cook the tortillas, I flip them over into the pre-heated cast iron comal or griddle after pressing them. After peeling the pliable plastic off, I gently flip the tortilla over into the heated cast iron comal or griddle. The price was great and the size was just right!) Anyway. You're investing quite a bit of money, however you are supporting a self-sustaining artist (which I really like) AND you're getting the best tortillas you've ever tasted. You might even be able to look at it for the rest of your life. My purchase could not have been a better one.

This is a great item that is built to last, functional, beautiful, and will certainly be on my top shelf
5/5

I love the way it's crafted, it's solid and it works perfectly. There is a lot of strength and durability here. We use this mostly for Pakistani / Indian Paratha & rotis. When you get your Parathas and Rotis right (let the dough rest, add a bit of oil so that gluten does not develop and cause your dough to spring back as much after compressing), then this press is a breeze to use. I found that this press was the largest available, which is very versatile. *Follow these tips If you are compressing the wood with the handle, place a soft cloth between the handle and the fulcrum to protect the wood. As a permanent solution, I might attach a felt sticker to the handle. included is some Boos Mystery Oil and Conditioner so this can look beautiful for years to come.

I would highly recommend this tortilla, Roti, or It is sure to be a hit with your family.

There is no other tortilla or dough press like this! We received the package sooner than expected
5/5

The package has been carefully I just picked up this beauty. The product has not been used yet, so I'll have to update this The grain of the wood is beautiful. The craftsmanship appears to be of the highest standard. New users may find the following suggestions useful You should never try to press dough to the final thickness all at once. Make a small ball of dough and flatten it with your Separate parchment paper sheets with a piece of tape. CAREFULLY press the partially pressed area. Once the press is open, turn the two pieces of parchment dough sandwiched together a quarter turn. You can press again in a partial manner. The press is open, quarter turn it. Continually increase the volume of the dough until the desired thickness is achieved. Having two inexpensive silicone pastry sheets that are precisely the right size will prevent sticking and make cleanup much simpler. Up to date Today I had the opportunity to use this perfectly made hardwood tortilla press for the first time. A batch of flaky butter flour tortillas and this press enabled me to get them very This is a highly recommended book. We have increased the rating to five.

It is beautiful to look at, but not useful
3/5

This is just what I've been looking for My intention was to make flour tortillas, so I followed other reviewers' tips for getting them as thin as possible. I still find it Eventually, I asked my husband to apply pressure, and the handle snapped. Having broken the press, I rolled out the remaining tortillas, and I realized that it is much easier (and much faster) to roll them out from scratch than to try using the machine. It made a decent pizza crust, though. I returned.

I think it makes sense in general, if you are clear about what it will do
4/5

This is primarily an ingenious invention, but if you are using whole wheat flour (like I am), you might still have to roll it out if you want it to be larger than a 6-inch circle. The start is easier with 7inches, but it does take longer to get it started. A tortilla about 10 inches in diameter could be made out of spelt as well. It might be even easier to make a larger tortilla if you use corn or something with less gluten.

The press is beautifully constructed
5/5

There is a lot of weight to this press that is beautifully built. My cast iron press is greatly improved in terms of producing even corn tortillas, as it has been sanded to perfection. A wooden press was not available when we visited Mexico a few weeks ago As far as I can tell, this is the best picture I've I appreciated it!.

It is a beautiful piece of workmanship! In addition to being a tortilla press, it's also a work of art
5/5

It's clear that great care was taken when making this I think it is the most beautiful accessory I have Those who have commented on the press with negative remarks likely did not read the instructions that went with it. There are no downsides to this program and it is very easy to use. I thought it was worth every penny.

Tortilla press that makes the best tortillas
5/5

There are some tortilla presses out there that are less expensive, but and I got this for my mom who needed something to use to make tortillas/Gorditas. She appreciated the fact that it would be easier for her to use. There is enough weight to the press so she doesn't have to add too much pressure to pull out the tortilla, and it She likes it because it looks great in the kitchen and is easier to use than the old one was.
