Place the filter in front of your face, with the softer side facing you. If both sides of the filter feel the same, you can place it in either direction.
It's not a good idea to wash a HEPA filter because it reduces its filtration efficiency. It is recommended that you air out your HEPA filter for 48 hours after each use, preferably in a sunny location with plenty of air flow.
If breathing becomes difficult, the filter should be replaced; however, because you only use it for a few hours per week, it should last well over six months.

Because I have a scientific background, when it comes to this contagious/deadly infinitely small virus molecule, I opt for science-based solutions. I rarely write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so on these because I had only recently received them. I chose THESE after doing my homework. I noticed that these are manufactured in CANADA ("our friends"), and you get what you pay for. Although they appear to be expensive, READ! These are H-grade materials. They are THE BEST HEPA at filtering because they are 13Hepa (MEDICAL GRADE). HEPA H10 or H12 is NOT as good as HEPA HEPA HEPA HEPA HEPA HEPA HEPA HEPA HEPA H They're also sewn together as THREE layer filters. NOT a flimsy one layer, so don't be fooled by others who claim to give you more. THE BEST VIRUS FILTER, and these are of EXCELLENT QUALITY. It's important to remember that HEPA can be reused multiple times. Depending on how much you use it, each HIGH QUALITY SEWN FILTER will last at least a month. I appreciate your efforts, as well as Amazon's, in keeping me and my fellow Americans as safe as possible during this highly infectious epidemic. It's a little pricey, but you always get what you pay for when it comes to quality!.
I, like many others, bought polyester logo masks at the start of the pandemic because they looked cool, but we've since learned that these masks are useless in terms of protecting you from the virus - whoever is wearing them - Covid droplets are able to pass through them. However, purchasing filters that fit inside the mask is one way to make them safer. Unfortunately, these filters are extremely thin and inexpensive, and they provide no protection for the incoming air, which bypasses the filter and travels directly around the sides and top of the mask. Other people are shielded by the mask, but you aren't. br>br>So, do yourself a favor and save your money instead of wasting it on this useless product - Rather, invest in a high-quality KN94 mask that will protect YOU.
This product is of excellent quality, having been manufactured in Canada. They appear to be a little frail at first, but once in place, they perform admirably. I just wish my filter pocket was a little bigger. I wear a double mask on top and a surgical mask on the bottom, and I don't feel restricted in my breathing. Polypropylene is used in three layers. My only recommendation is that the front and back of the filters be clearly labeled. If you're on the fence about getting these, do it! The dotted part faces out, and the softer part faces in.
I can't help but believe that the filters not only protect those in your immediate vicinity, but also keep you from inhaling germs from others.
I've been using this filter for about 4 weeks, and it fits into a cloth mask I own that has an internal filter pocket. Breathing through the filter is not a problem for me. I haven't used it long enough to know how long each filter will last, but so far I'm happy with it and see no reason why I wouldn't buy more if and when they're needed. I should point out that because I work from home and don't get out much due to COVID, I haven't had much opportunity to use the filter.
HEPA filters are supposed to help filter, so we're adding our cloth layered masks as a second layer to help filter out COVID or the flu virus.
It's reassuring to know that I have an extra layer of protection, even if it's not easy to insert and most insertions end up looking a little sloppy.
