My hometown is Anchorage, Alaska, where I grew up. I used to go to the Russian River every year and catch Reds and Silvers to smoke. Smoked salmon and reindeer sausage have been a part of my diet for the majority of my life. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have a pretty good idea of how smoked salmon, spreads, and other foods should taste, and this was terrible. It was almost rancid, in my opinion.
The texture and flavor are both terrible, and the flavor is strongly reminiscent of fish. Lobster, smoked salmon, and cream cheese are said to be among the ingredients. Unfortunately, none of those flavors come through in the flavor. I gave my cat a small amount and she liked it, but it gave her the runs; I had my eye on other products from this company, but I'm afraid to try anything else because this left such a bad taste in my mouth.
1 can (8 oz. ) + 1 can (8 oz. ) + 1 can (8 o A delicious spread for bagels or crackers made with cream cheese. Much better than the ready-made smoked salmon cream cheese spread available in most supermarkets. Note: I didn't like it when I first tried it out of the can because it tasted too much like cat food, which is why I gave it four stars. But it's fantastic when mixed with plain cream cheese. I'll keep it in my pantry for sure.
When my store was unable to obtain Philadelphia Smoked Salmon Spread Cream Cheese, I decided to give this a try in the hopes of discovering a suitable substitute. Since I put it on a 1/2 bagel with a thin slice of lox (thin-sliced), I've been in love with the Philadelphia spread I was looking for. Every morning, I have sliced smoked salmon for breakfast. This was the first time I tried it. I was very disappointed because it wasn't at all what I had hoped to try. But, again, those are *my* tastebuds, and I gave three cans to a friend whose tastebuds are similar to mine-- Despite this, he will try some things that I will not. I'll give him the remaining two cans if he likes them. I'm not sure what I'll do with them if that doesn't happen. I struggled long enough with the first can to realize it would feel like a punishment for making a poor choice in hoping it would be close to what I was looking for as a replacement. Please don't base your decision to try it on my personal experience. It is possible that you will enjoy it. Just don't buy it hoping to find a replacement for Philadelphia cream cheese spread. It's far from being a tie.
The texture is terrible. To mix with cream cheese, follow the instructions on the box. The flavor is just as bad as the appearance. All six of them were given to my cat. They liked it, but it gave them the creeps, as another customer mentioned. I wouldn't eat this in a survival situation; it's disgusting.
I was expecting a smooth salmon paste when I opened the can, but instead I got oily, loose ground up salmon with a foul aftertaste.
I grew up in England, and now that I can't get my hands on the fish paste that I adore, I've decided to make my own. I thought it was a good substitute for cream cheese on a bagel. I'm not sure what everyone else is complaining about.
Someone removed the cat food label from the can and repackaged it as lobster in a printed box.
