Okay, you've got to take these for what they're worth: Peaches that have been dried and frozen should be kept in the freezer. They're light as a feather. It's almost like styrofoam with a peach flavor. When I say it that way, it doesn't sound very appetizing, but they're actually quite tasty. When you eat them straight, the concentrated peach flavor is appealing, but the crunchy texture gives way to a nearly sticky consistency. They're a fantastic warm or cold cereal topping. br>br> Baking into bread is also a lot of fun.
Fizzy Rocks Can Be Expensive. Peaches are my favorite fruit, and I was excited to try these after having such a positive experience with the other "Just Tomatoes" products. I was expecting a peach flavor that was concentrated in a tasty, crunchy package. br>br>Unfortunately, my hopes were dashed. At all. br>br>The package I received wasn't crunchy in the traditional sense: Biting into the small cubes was difficult, and small pieces of cube stuck to your teeth. The peach flavor was barely discernible in the cubes. No one in our family would touch the things after the first handful. I ended up tossing the rest of the cubes into a batch of cupcake batter in the hopes of adding some extra nutrition. It accomplished this, but even better, the chocolate cupcakes have a subtle peach flavor. br>br>However, as a subtle cupcake flavoring, I would never buy these again. I'll eat the strawberries and blueberries and give these peaches to someone who will appreciate them.
I was pleased with just the strawberries because I enjoy adding fruit to my cereal all year. These peaches were disappointing because they were extremely hard, and parts of them were inedible even after soaking in milk.
Toddlers will love these peaches. I only gave them four stars because, while most of the chunks melt in your mouth (which is great for older babies), some are naturally tougher and grown-up in nature. Consistency (chewy, tough to bite, and downright hard) is all that matters. This is a natural variation in fruit, not a flaw in the manufacturing process. Even so, it prevents them from being flawless. br>br>Please note: Because the pieces are too large to be safe straight out of the tub, you must supervise the biting into smaller pieces or chop them up before handing them over to toddlers. However, it was well worth the effort. br>br>Because these peaches are a little tart, they're not overly sweet or fake peach-like. tasting. br>br>Strawberries (once you've introduced this potentially allergenic food) and raspberries are two other fruits from this brand that are good early finger foods for toddlers. Some fruits and vegetables, such as raisins, mangoes, and persimmons, must be rehydrated before being given to children. If you prefer, you can get an organic version from the Just Tomatoes website.
