Buying bags from Amazon has been a great experience for me, as this is my second bag I've purchased. This product is excellent. There are a few suspicious negative reviews here that don't even seem to be written about the same product. Don't believe them!.
These used to be the brand of choice years ago, and Mariani was the brand of choice. They were inconsistent in size, taste, Some of the tender ones came out of the bag, and I enjoyed them. Although I soaked the apricots in hot water, they were still too chewy to make muffins. THE UPDATE IS As I made some cookies with apricots, I found that they tasted funny -- like there was too much salt. I decided to see what the ingredients contained, and found out that sulfur dioxide is used to preserve the fruit. In my reading, I learned that sulfur dioxide is not that great for you, particularly if you have breathing problems. Having stomach problems can also be caused by it. It didn't leave a good taste in my mouth for some reason. My first thought was that perhaps there was too much preservative in the food. It has been reported in several articles that sulfur dioxide is used in many dried fruits as a preservative. I checked a bag of dried prunes from Sunsweet and they did not contain sulfur dioxide. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered the same issue.
