Great roux for gumbo and also a good seasoning for other Cajun and Creole dishes.
My lifelong supply will appear to be provided by Amazon's package, which I ordered from there. I was unable to use this, since I already have Zatarins Gumbo Mix as a favorite. Shrimp and Egg Stew, a favorite comfort food dish my dearly beloved creole mother would make for me, was the dish I made. This is amazing! With only a short amount of this mix, I was able to make a decent roux in a very short amount of time, so I'm now seeking out other roux based recipes now that I have so much of this mix leftover.
Even though I've tried to make my own Roux Mix, it never comes out the same way as Tony's It's no problem if there are no lumps!.
This is a $12 deal. The price of 99 on Amazon in 2012 was $99. My sticker shock was palpable when I went into the store today to order more. In light of the cost, I will have to reconsider now whether to purchase the upgrade. There are some great things about this product, so long as you don't mind the price.
Roux is the most difficult part about making gumbo, which is what I hate most about it. As a thickening base, it can be used in Gumbos, Gravies, Stews, or any recipe in need of a thickening agent.
This product is usually available in the store, but I haven't been able to locate Visited Amazon and a couple of other sites I saw it there. This is something we use all the time and love! If you are planning on making gumbo, this is a must-have.
This sauce takes a long time to thicken, and it isn't as hot as I would have liked.
Making gumbo with it is a delight.
