The taste of capers and the flavor of pickles complement one another perfectly, but the two should never be combined. For years I have been buying these salty ones from this store, and they are hard All you have to do is rinse them before using them, and you'll get the flavour of the caper, not weird vinegar taste. Alternatively, you can pat them dry first and fry them in oil if you need to crisp them up or fry them in oil. It will be hard for you to go back to the plain ones after you use the salted ones.
I like finding salted capers (yes, I am half-Italian! Italian) on grocery shelves has never been a sure thing. Additionally, the current pandemic has turned browsing into an unpleasant experience You must "shop". In store, I would have paid more for an individual item (when found in store), so I was thrilled to find a case for a little less than I would have paid for a case purchase with free delivery. It is recommended.
If specialty stores stop carrying bulk salt brined capers at the deli they now have these as the next best thing for cooking.
My servings are not as salty as they could be, as I simply use less salt.
I find these capers to be excellent. So the taste of the caper comes through since they are packed in salt rather than vinegar. Please be patient.
It was disappointing to find these dried, dusty caper pillows.
They're supposed to be dry (ish) and the salt in the packet is supposed to stay there when you open it, instead of going away when they're opened. There is a lot of salt in them We usually wake them up with lemon juice and put them on bagels with cream cheese and lox. It was delicious.
