Questions & Answers

For a vanilla extract, what's better - vodka or bourbon?

My discovery has not been mentioned in any of the answers. Despite the fact that Tahitian beans have a floral taste, they are overwhelmed by any other liquor than vodka, but they make the best butter cream frosting in the world. This vanilla is absolutely extraordinary in rum. It makes for a rich, sweet, and incredibly delicious cake and cupcake frosting. This was detracting from the vanilla because the Bourbon was strong.

May I ask a really dumb question, but do you think you can open these and find a pod or ?

I am not asking a dumb question -- that is a pod/bean pictured. The bean contains tiny seeds that can be scraped out with a knife. I recommend using a grade B vanilla bean (if you want the seeds for a recipe) and just chopping them up or breaking them open and dropping them into the alcohol of your choice to make vanilla extract.

What is the expiration date?

It is unknown to me who Ann is. Although the package might have had a date on it, I didn't check because my wife wanted to use the vanilla beans and vodka right away to make vanilla extract.

What is the origin of these vanilla beans?

We work with a network of farmers to grow these beans in Indonesia.

The order from two days earlier was completely different
3/5

The order came two days after we placed our first order of the same product. The first order was so good that as soon as the beans were set up in the vodka for the vanilla extract, we placed a second order immediately. The difference between the two is so stark! Packaging was completely different, and there was little vanilla scent. Beans were shorter and smaller and packaging was different, too. I prepared the beans in the same way as you did. The earlier bottle had already developed an excellent smell after two days. Despite shaking the bottles every day for the past six days, there is hardly any vanilla smell in the newer batch. This type of bean, called Grade B, or split beans, is most commonly used for extract due to the fact that they are left on the vine until they are so ripe they split. An extra year in the vineyard allows the fruit to develop stronger, more complex flavors, as a high concentration of vanillin accumulates. Beans with no signs of being split appeared to have never been split before- As a matter of fact, the opposite happened. Beans picked early may have been the cause of these problems. While the first order turned out great, I'll be waiting for next year's crop as much as possible.

Many of you are aware that Madagascar had been hit by cyclone in 2017, and therefore vanilla farms were destroyed. There are more vanilla beans produced in Madagascar than anywhere else in the world. Price-wise, vanilla beans in 2011 were as low as $10 per kilo, by 2015 they had grown to about $100 per kilo, and they peaked at about $800 in 2018 after a Due to high prices, theft became a real issue, so to minimize losses from theft, farmers started to pick them before they were fully mature, and before they fully developed their The supply of vanilla beans is slowly returning because it takes a vanilla orchid farm about three years to reach actual production. The prices are on the way down, currently between $450 and $500 A quality improvement has been observed since the start of the year. With all this said, the company sent us both a nice (though not great) pack, and another (in a completely different package from another supplier) which shouldn't have been sent to us.

Beans that are slimy! Buying is not a good idea
3/5

When I first sliced them and put them in vodka, I wasn't aware of any changes. Submerged to the fullest extent. In a few days, I noticed that my vodka was floating in white substances. As soon as I looked closer, I discovered that the beans were slimy inside, and the thin layer of slime floating around was actually the detached slime. of beans I made came from a different seller, so I pulled one of those out and it turned out perfectly. There was no slime whatsoever. One thing if these beans had been in there for months before becoming slimy, but I don't think that's the case. If I think I made the mistake, I might think I am guilty as charged. What about a couple of I think that's a completely different matter. There are no good reasons to use I wasted not only the money I spent on these beans but also the vodka I purchased. Even though this listing has so many good reviews, I think you should give these guys a pass given that you will invest both time and money into trying to make vanilla extract.

Covered in mold when it arrived
3/5

There were moldy clothes on them when they arrived. When I used them a month after ordering (lesson learned, always open immediately), it was too late for me This was a very disappointing experience, the vacuum seal seemed to be ineffective.

I bought this Tahitian Vanilla Bean, Grade B, dedicated to making vanilla extract, specifically to make vanilla extract at home
5/5

I bought 50 and the beans were very aromatic upon arrival. I am looking forward to using my Vanilla Extract within the next few months. The price was great and Vanilla Bean King has great customer service. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking to purchase Fresh Grade A or Grade B Beans.

The product is of high quality and superior
5/5

I was very impressed with how well packaged these vanilla beans were! The package is vacuum sealed, and is printed with all of the information about the beans and where they came from! That was very kind of you! Upon opening the packages that contained the beans to make the extract, it was immediately apparent that these beans were of superior quality. My first impressions of the fragrance are very good, so I’m eager to see the quality of the extract 8 weeks from now. It was a very good purchase for us and we will let you know when the extract is ready. Think twice before buying if you are debating whether to purchase them. You should do it! There is nothing to be disappointed about! As for the price, it is too good to be true! I think this is the best I have seen so I'm grateful for the fantastic product you provide!.

It was a little hard to pick beans because of their small size
3/5

Prior to ordering these, I had ordered a different brand. I thought I would give these a try since they were I purchased them because they were thinner and shorter in size than the others. While I am confident the quality of the vanilla beans themselves will be adequate for extract making, I was disappointed in the size of the The size of the shoes is pretty small. I will not order them again.
