Fine product. For 40 years I was a chef for a major hotel chain and McCormick was the only spice company we could use because they had the lowest percent of insect parts. Yes, all dried spices have insects.
When I fell for it, I forgot to remember that if a bargain seems too good to be true, well, you know the rest. This $6 deal I fell for. It's ridiculous to pay 99 dollars for a large amount of an expensive herb and yet many might be caught by it. Quite a few of these basil leaves have yellowed over time! They have a faint bitter taste to them No basil flavor will be added to my dishes since there is no distinguishable odor. We all learn as we live our lives.
There is a distinct anise flavor and smell to this basil, so I'm pretty sure it's anise basil and not traditional McCormick I will probably trash it and go to the store to buy some That was a big disappointment.
19), but it is much better than dollar store basil, and the discount on product in this size container makes it approximately the same price. In order to get the same flavor, you have to use about 25% more basil than you are used to using organic basil.
A weak smell was the first thing that caught my attention. Upon tasting it, I found it to have a very bland taste. In my opinion, it didn't live up to the standard in one dish. The Basil you are buying is not good. In addition, how is Amazon determining what counts as SNAP eligible purchases? You can buy any food at a grocery store If you buy there with SNAP, regardless of the size of the purchase, you qualify. The SNAP program appears to be used to entice you to purchase what they are selling. Our best option is to shop at the grocery store rather than at this store.
Although I was unsure about buying dried basil (or parsley or cilantro), these smell so fresh and strong, much like the freshest herbs I can think of, even after being dried out. Fresh basil made a highly flavorful marinara sauce that I served over spaghetti. In addition to the parsley and cilantro, which can be expensive in the store and perish too quickly, I also purchased the coconut oil. As I don't have enough sunlight in my home for plants to grow, these McCormick herbs are working great in place of fresh plants.
I love the way it smells. Weighing it out of the container, I took it out of the container. Not all the contents of the container were present. There was a 5 lb. weight to it. There are 24 ounces in this bottle. Before I arrived, we had a good deal in place. The container was filled with another herb made by another company. Amount advertised in the ad was in the box.
The aroma was also pleasing to me.
We have no idea what the flavor of this 5 oz jar of dried basil is like! And it has barely any smell, either. There are over two years until the expiration date of your best by item. There will be no use for it. The McCormick customer service representative told me I had to return it via mail after waiting 15 minutes on the phone to get refunded or replaced. As a handicapped person, I do not have access to a mail box for something of this size. My Amazon account was credited as soon as I called them. We won't be buying McCormick products in the future. It's not a trust issue for me, but it's not a trust issue for.
