Saffron has been used in my family since I was a child. We use this Saffron (not MANCHA SAFFRON) as a spice in our cooking on a daily basis. We are Bangladeshis, and our expert cook knows how to prepare a variety of dishes. We do not require any saffron lessons because we have been using it for over 150 years. Thank you very much.
I'm not sure if saffron has an expiration date. br>I keep it in the fridge and only use about 1 ounce per year.
The year of packing and the "Best Before" date are both written on the box's sticker. When I bought it, the year of packing was 2011, and it would be best if I could get it before 2019. Of course, if you buy it now, the year will be different. Keep the plastic bag tightly closed and the bag in the tin to ensure a long shelf life; the ideal shelf life is eight years.
Linda, I haven't tried Gathering of Saffron, but I can attest to La Mancha's intensity and flavor. This was given to me as a gift, and when I ran out (years later), I purchased it for myself. I see that the price has doubled since I got my first tin, so I recommend that you get the big one now! MLR, many thanks.

My original rating was four stars, but I'm downgrading to one because the saffron isn't entirely authentic. It is 15- 20% saffron with colored fillet strands that give color as soon as you put them in hot water as you put them in hot water as you put them in hot water as% This saffron is too valuable for me to return. I suppose what you pay for is what you get. What a letdown! br>br>Photo depicts three people. In a sea of colored fillers, there are four stamens!.
It doesn't have as many as as as as as as as as as as The rest is a ruse. This and Altaj brands are the worst of three brands I tested. Altaj has only 1% real saffron threads. There could be 50% true threads in The Gathering . I soaked them both in the same amount of water and let them soak for an hour. The gathering had threads , 50% of which remained red and settled at bottom, while the other two brands threads floated on top and after a while all turned white with 1- There are two red threads. There is no taste at all. Altaj and Alma both had colored water and white threads, according to the baking soda test. It will be returned to me. Gathering has been one of my favorite brands for years, and it used to be of excellent quality. However, it now contains a small amount of fake threads, compared to the other two brands. They no longer use real saffron and instead use fake colored threads.
It has a saffron flavor to it. It doesn't have a saffron scent. There's no saffron flavor to it. What exactly is it, exactly? All I know is that I paid $36 for a lovely metal box containing an unknown substance. I was taken, and I could kick myself for thinking I could get so much saffron for such a small amount of money. On this one, Amazon, you failed miserably.
I wouldn't have bought it if I'd read the reviews, but at $35/oz. , I couldn't say no. The price was too good to pass up. br>After reading the reviews and doing some research and testing on my own, I've come to the conclusion that it's not hopeless. br>I practiced picking genuine saffron strands from fake strands until I was able to do so with ease. Approximately 5 minutes Using tweezers, I was able to pick out enough real saffron to season a cup of rice in 8 minutes. br>The real strands have a flared end that tapers to a very thin, slightly curly tip. The strands of the fake hair are thicker and do not taper at all. br>If you want to be sure, take a few of each and put them in some water. The fake strands will swell up and lose their color in the water after a few minutes, and they will eventually sink. The real strands will gradually color the water, but they will not swell or sink. br>Note the difference between real and fake strands in the water in my photo.
BOGUS! Purchasing is not recommended. This isn't good saffron or even saffron at all. Saffron has been a part of my life for the past 30 years. plus, the item is not returnable. I had to call, and a lovely lady helped me out by giving me credit toward the real deal.
If the Mexican cartels ever did a cost analysis of their current illegal wares versus the cost of Saffron, I'm sure they'd realize they could make more money on Saffron and not have to pay as much to keep the Federales paid off.
The real Saffron is depicted on the left side of the picture. The color appears to be accurate. My wife tried the fake one and developed a severe headache and is unable to sleep as a result. As a result, be cautious in your purchases.
The smell is mostly colored threads mixed in with real threads, according to hot water testing. Only about 15 of the threads are real on average. Don't get me wrong: I'm a big believer in the power of positive thinking This cost me a lot of money. I'm not going to get rid of it. I'll use it, but I'm not going to repurchase it.
