Questions & Answers

Is this a genuine Hungarian product?

Why on God's green earth is it illegal to import or sell paprika from Hungary? No, it's not the case. Put an end to the gossip. br>br>If you want authentic paprika, look for specific brands like Szeged or Kolocsa, which are the two primary sources for the best peppers; however, there is a company distribution of counterfeit Szeged brand coming from New Jersey to be aware of, as it is not Hungarian and the label is nearly identical to the authentic paprika. Don't reward them by buying their products because of this. br>br>The fact that Amazon hasn't removed this obvious fraud says a lot about how concerned they are about their customers. They should be ashamed for profiting from sales and taking advantage of the current Hungarian paprika scarcity.

Isn't it possible to just use regular paprika?

You can, but the flavor of Hungarian Sweet is superior. When regular paprika is required, I substitute sweet paprika. Smoked has a stronger flavor and is best used in dishes that require a smoked, grilled, or barbecued flavor. Hot paprika is mildly spicy and perfect for dishes that need a little kick! However, there is no burning sensation in your mouth.

Is this a spicy dish? Please accept my gratitude. ?

There is no such thing as sweet Hungarian paprika. not hot.

Is your paprika from Hungary, and if so, from what part of the country?

It is not true that paprika from Hungary is illegal to import. Look for "Pride Of Szeged" on Amazon to purchase it.

There is very little flavor
3/5

First and foremost, I am a foodie who hails from a Hungarian family in the United States (grandparents were born in Hungary). I recently received this and tasted it raw side by side. I served it alongside the last of my Pride Of Szeged sweet paprika can. Raw, the flavor of this paprika is brighter and less bitter, but it lacks depth. br>br>I usually use 1 tablespoon of hot and 2 tablespoons of sweet Pride of Szeged Hungarian paprika when making chicken paprikash. So, as soon as I got it, I made paprikash with it as the sweet paprika. I could only get a smidgeon of a taste of it. I ended up using a total of 5 tablespoons of this in my pan, and even though I used 2 1/2 times as much as I normally would, the flavor was still lacking. Simply put, there isn't much flavor in this stuff! I didn't want to go any further because I didn't want to end up with a pot of paprika paste, which I didn't want. br>br>I'm perplexed by all of the positive feedback, which is why I decided to give it a shot. It's half the price of Pride of Szeged, but it's not even close to being as flavorful. I'm not sure if it's because this paprika is so old, or if it's because it was grown in soil that didn't help it develop that wonderful lush sweet tangy flavor that good paprika has. br>br>I'm also perplexed as to how it can be referred to as Hungarian paprika when it appears to be from Ohio. I believe there is some misinformation here, and the paprika is actually Hungarian STYLE paprika. br>br>This is a complete waste of money. Spend $6- Instead of $7, you can get a 4 oz. can of Pride of Szeged. That will have about the same amount of flavor as the entire pound, but it will be more complex and nuanced.

Aroma and flavor are authentic, and the price is reasonable
5/5

The flavor is exactly what we wanted for our family's favorite traditional Central and Eastern European dishes, and the price is extremely reasonable. This paprika is not the same as "Spanish smoked" paprika; it has a distinct flavor. There is no "bite" to this "Hungarian sweet," only a unique aroma and flavor.

The genuine article! Hungarian Sweet Paprika in its purest form! Despite the fact that I prepare a lot of Hungarian food, one pound was too much for me, so I made a few small packages and gave them to friends

Paprika was once thought to be merely decorative. Not so- Exceptionally useful in the kitchen.

Sweet paprika from Hungary
5/5

The flavor and aroma of this paprika are outstanding. It's robust without being overwhelming. I got it to use in a spice rub recipe, and it turned out beautifully. I've used it on hamburgers, chicken, and fish, among other things. br>br>It's also a "robust" color, a deep reddish-brown. brown. Paprika in a brighter orange is what I'm used to. The darker shade actually blends in better—at least visually. It's more of a component than a finishing touch. That is, of course, in addition to the fantastic flavor.

There was nothing noteworthy about it

This tastes exactly like the "paprika" you'll find in the spice aisle of your local supermarket. Continue looking for something with a lot of flavor. I used to make delicious stews with Szeged Hungarian sweet paprika, but I couldn't find any where I was, so I bought this. The low price enticed me, but it lacks flavor.
