My initial reaction was to regret it as soon as I received it. The rest of the pieces are dark, which looks molded. There are only about five good ones in this package. It's impossible to return them to you. It has to be disposed of. **Why would Amazon give it an Amazon's Choice award for false advertising?.

Even though some reviews mentioned the star anise arrived in pieces, I was still willing to give it a try. The reviews were accurate, which is unfortunate. The majority of this bag is broken up, but it is a good size bag for the price. make a tea with this, so I suppose in the long run, it isn't really that important, but I am sure it makes a difference in the appearance of the herbs in the jar. There will be no more purchases made of this item.

The second bag has been reordered. Yesterday, I received the package. They are pretty good, too. I don't know where these came from, but I am positive that they came from somewhere. Bags that have not been opened have a wonderful smell. In the previous bag, the anise star (visible in the image) was from Vietnam, and it was wonderful. The anise have a great aroma and they are whole anise. I use them in dishes such as Vietnamese pho and pork soups to enhance the flavors.

Despite the fact that the description says it doesn't and isn't listed under ingredients, it states below in fine print that it contains sulfur dioxide as a preservative and the expiration date is smudged below that. It's hard for me to tell how old these leaves are because they are so shriveled. There are no return options, which is a hassle in any case.

There were no complaints about the taste of these. There were a lot of broken items. Due to the fact that I use it in my soups or broths and I usually strain my broth, it doesn't really matter to me if there are broken pieces. You're going to enjoy this anise if you don't mind a bunch of broken pieces! Comparing it to the store, it is certainly a better deal! A seven-dollar bill was all I got For $8 to buy half an ounce, then this was like six times the value for less than half the cost. I don't see how it could go wrong!.
