Selected User Reviews For Star Anise-12oz-Whole Chinese Star Anise Pods, Dried Anise Star Spice (12 OZ)
My dismay at the poor quality of the package of star anise was evident upon receiving it. The bag was filled with broken bits and crushed pieces for more than half of its contents. This is a terrible It gives me pause for some unknown reason that there was a label on the bag that covered another unreadable label underneath. A look at the bag of star anise generally revealed a shabby and faded look It looked torn, like it had been in place for a long time. So don't bother with it. The warning has been given to you.
Almost all the pieces are broken, and there are hardly any whole stars to be found. However, for my purposes, that is fine. I am mostly interested in the aromas and flavors they add. This is great. Even though the vacuum bag was sealed, a faint aroma of anise could be detected! Our air conditioning system put them in an enclosed area It is still smelt around the lid of the container because it is in a tight container. Anise is a very powerful flavor, and I will utilize it for cooking, gluhwein (German warm wine for Christmas), and in the ground up form for ground coffee. The marinade will be added as a part of * This is the bottom line If you like pretty, don't buy it. The first thing you should do if you want something tasty is to buy plenty.
My initial reaction was to regret it as soon as I received it. The rest of the pieces are dark, which looks molded. There are only about five good ones in this package. It's impossible to return them to you. It has to be disposed of. **Why would Amazon give it an Amazon's Choice award for false advertising?.
Even though some reviews mentioned the star anise arrived in pieces, I was still willing to give it a try. The reviews were accurate, which is unfortunate. The majority of this bag is broken up, but it is a good size bag for the price. make a tea with this, so I suppose in the long run, it isn't really that important, but I am sure it makes a difference in the appearance of the herbs in the jar. There will be no more purchases made of this item.
The second bag has been reordered. Yesterday, I received the package. They are pretty good, too. I don't know where these came from, but I am positive that they came from somewhere. Bags that have not been opened have a wonderful smell. In the previous bag, the anise star (visible in the image) was from Vietnam, and it was wonderful. The anise have a great aroma and they are whole anise. I use them in dishes such as Vietnamese pho and pork soups to enhance the flavors.
Despite the fact that the description says it doesn't and isn't listed under ingredients, it states below in fine print that it contains sulfur dioxide as a preservative and the expiration date is smudged below that. It's hard for me to tell how old these leaves are because they are so shriveled. There are no return options, which is a hassle in any case.
There were no complaints about the taste of these. There were a lot of broken items. Due to the fact that I use it in my soups or broths and I usually strain my broth, it doesn't really matter to me if there are broken pieces. However, if you're going to cook something that requires whole star anise for presentation, this may not be the best choice. It is not like broken pieces like powder, rather, they look Although the price is high, it's a good value.
You're going to enjoy this anise if you don't mind a bunch of broken pieces! Comparing it to the store, it is certainly a better deal! A seven-dollar bill was all I got For $8 to buy half an ounce, then this was like six times the value for less than half the cost. I don't see how it could go wrong!.
