It is automatic. There is not too much flour in it, so it seems coarse. The grain does not have to be ground.

Because I have celiac disease, even a few traces of gluten will trigger an autoimmune response, causing me to fall ill for weeks at a time. The bottle does state that it is "gluten free," however, it is not certified gluten free. This makes me really sad since spices are the one thing I always make sure is certified gluten free because they are one of the products most likely to cross-contaminate with wheat and other gluten sources. Make sure you are careful when buying!.
This is a great pepper that has a great price. Pepper that is not weak like the off-brand varieties.
I found this one to be exactly what I expected it to be, and the flavor is excellent. The value of the product is excellent.
There is a reason why my spice cabinet is filled with Badia products. It's been good to purchase Badia spices on a consistent basis and at a good price. It is hard for me to imagine how you could go wrong when purchasing this product. I purchased table grind, butcher grind, and Since I bought them, I have used them all quite a bit.
Besides being really satisfied with the purchase, my wife also liked the service! There is something fresh in the taste and smell of the issue, she claims. As for the grind, it is both fine and coarse enough to suit her preferences. Her overall impression is that she is very pleased with her.
Those of you who love pepper, as I do, have to try this.
