Questions & Answers

How can brown rice cost almost double as much as white?White rice is just brown rice, which has been processed, so it should cost more than brown. ?

It has been suggested that brown rice is healthier than white rice. And, for whatever reason, I find that anything healthy and good for you is not easy on the bank account.

The shelf life of the rice is it long or short?

Putting rice in a freezer for 24 hours will kill any bugs present. Store it in an air-tight container to prevent the spread of insects. There are usually meal moths responsible for the problem. The problem with them was that I had been storing grain items on the shelf too long. However, I started using moth traps and got rid of some of them. The traps took about a year for me to accomplish this, but I'm free of moths now. In addition, I put my grains and dry beans in the freezer for at least 24 hours before storing them.

What is the organic status of this rice?

This is a short grain brown rice (not a long grain) that tastes almost nutty and has a great texture.

The rice that I remove from my sealed container is filled with bugs
3/5

It becomes contaminated with a bunch of pests once it is cooked. I take the rice cooker bowl back to the sink and drain it over the sink to rinse it. Hundreds of tiny bugs are left in the bowl of my rice cooker after I took it out. If I freeze the rice, the bugs will definitely die, and cooking them will do the same, but I would rather not eat bugs. Whether or not they get all off with rinsing is unknown. There's no way I can take the risk of becoming sick. The brand I'll be using will be different from the one I've been using.

In Kansas, there is an elusive grain
4/5

Brown rice is a favorite food of mine where I come from. If I were born in Idaho, I would be addicted to potatoes. The state of Kansas has become a Land of Oz for me, and not just for its brown rice, but for many reasons beyond its rice recipes. I regret to say that I am currently (but thank God only temporarily) in Kansas. My experience in several stores has been the same I have asked and the result has been the same each time. The brown rice aisle is 10, yes, we have that. I was just in the rice aisle, so I would really appreciate it if you could show me. "Sure. " she replied. In the process of searching, (searching). My guess is that it would be here with the rest of the rice. The answer to that is no. br>"I'm sorry, but that doesn't seem to work. ". I know this is true since they always assume they carry it but don't, but I don't believe they ever do. The same big-box store is the one I go to. It used to be available in bulk in the same exact chain stores I used to buy it from, but here in Kansas the same stores do not offer any brown rice. The same is true of The fact that I grew up in a state where there is more to food than white rice, Wonder bread, hot dogs, and mayonnaise was taken for granted when I was a youngster I believed there were a variety of long-lasting foods available to the community. Our options include brown rice of all kinds, including short-grain brown rice. In Dorothy's country, however, it still seems as if the social thinking is stuck in the 1940s From the Wizard of Oz come There is a time-loop in which culture and consequently food are diverse but fail While I could elaborate on this further, I realize that the entire purpose of this article was to review Nishiki brown rice, so please accept my apology. * Here's a product that There is no better option to live in Kansas if you are a Kansas resident!.

Beware of bugs when ordering this item
3/5

I have ordered this item multiple times and, unfortunately, I have suffered from bugs in the bag each time. I've had a problem with bugs not just with this brand, but with many others, as well. Several different brands have caused this issue when I have used them. It's quite normal to see bugs but what makes them dangerous is that they can turn humans into zombies. Rather than eating anything dangerous, you should be off for eating rice- The pests can easily be removed if the rice is rinsed before cooking and the bag is put in the freezer for a few days in advance to prevent infestations. Every bag contains them, so the problem is that they are everywhere. The practice of repeatedly infesting bags is not acceptable from the consumer's perspective. As you can see, it's up to each person whether they are really bother by this (pun intended) or not. From a quality control standpoint, however, this sort of thing should never occur. This is especially not the case if you order multiple bags at the same time (over a few months). In case you already own this item and wish to check it, you should lay your bag face-down on the ground. The transparent window (in the front of the bag) should be facing down. Turn the page. While rocking the bag back and forth, take a moment to look inside. If you let it sit like that for 5 minutes, then lift the bag (don't tip it too far) and look into the transparent window--this will reveal how to open the zipper. You are eating rice that is contaminated with bugs if you can see "crumbs" between the grains.

There is no cooking involved with this rice
3/5

The one reason NOT to buy the product is unless you are seeking a reason to have more dental work done. If you could cook a 20 pound turkey faster, then this will take less time than what it would take for the rice to become like the kind you would expect from a decent As per the instructions, it needs to be cooked for 50 minutes. . . Oh my god, that is hilarious. Rice cooked for 50 minutes has a consistency similar to that achieved in 10 minutes with basmati or jasmine rice. Post Grape Nuts comes to mind. I once made black beans and rice, which I had to cook for two and a half hours. Despite the disintegration of the black beans and crunchier rice than you would expect of a mediocre Chinese restaurant, the meal was still enjoyable. However, it is tasteless at least. There is a 5-inch screen on my 5-inch laptop It was too many evenings babysitting with lousy results that I threw my 4 lb. bag over into a 5 lb. bag. I threw away a five pound bag of it. It is my experience that basmati or jasmine rice is the healthier choice, but I was told that eating brown rice could extend one's lifespan. I'd rather die young than live a long time.

I've never encountered a package of rice as bad as this
3/5

A small number of pantry moths had been included in the package. The nests began growing into a large cluster which was disgusting at first but after a while I noticed they had grown into a huge cluster. After they had begun to nest all over the place, it took me about two full days to clean out my pantry and everything related. My life will never be the same after purchasing rice online!.

I wish you the best, There has never been a better time for rice
5/5

As soon as I got a rice cooker, I tried all kinds of rice to find out which was my favorite. This is by far the greatest brown rice I have ever had. Having brown rice every week is now my default meal, and I'm not sure how I survived without it in the past. The rice bowls I make using chicken, vegetables, some kind of great wok sauce, and Nishiki brown rice are a staple in my house. I used to buy Trader Joe's Brown Jasmine brown rice, but I have since discovered Nishiki. Although my favorite white rice is still white Thai Jasmine, I have to say that Nishiki brown is my new favorite rice! I know it's a bit of a mixed metaphor, but you get my meaning.

Great brown rice with a great taste, and it cooks perfectly if it is properly prepared
5/5

Let the steam do all the work, and you will have great rice. Cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid after the water has boiled, and turn the heat down just enough so that you can still see steam coming out from underneath the lid. Do not remove the lid until the steam has gone out. The rice must also be rinsed to ensure it runs clear until the water runs clear if we want to make excellent brown rice. This style of rice takes a couple of minutes longer to cook and prepare than white rice, but you get separate grains instead of clumps. There is something about this rice that reminds me of nutty, rich flavors that taste better than white rice. The price is good and the product is of high quality.
