My first time eating roasted edamame, I tasted them like burnt cardboard

I usually eat freshly prepared edamame, so I haven't experienced it previously. Exactly a week ago, I was delivered a bag of 3 lbs. I saw that it was vacuum sealed in a bag and everything looked good. The flavor of these products has a burnt cardboard taste. I am not sure how other brands perform in this regard, but even though they are a greenish brown, they taste overcooked. I roasted some. The last time I bought these was several years ago.
