That's true, Solo is much better. My native country is Germany and we use the same terms. Make sure the product is fresh by checking the expiration date.
There are confectionary shops in Europe where you can easily find colored marzipan. You might be able to add color yourself, but I am not sure. The Odense almond paste is much better than the Odense marzipan, by the way. Marzipan is also found in that one, but it is not as sweet.
It didn't turn out well for my gingerbread house, sorry about that.
Three would be sufficient to cover a 12" round, I believe. You can make it thinner or thicker depending on your preference.

My marzipan was terrible when I attempted to make it myself. The service was excellent, even though I ordered it as a last minute/last resort. I was so happy with how easy it was to use and how well it turned out. I love being able to watch my two-year-old boy watch the marzipan bees flying on his B-DAY cake I made a cake for my birthday.
As a first time user of marzipan, I found it quite challenging. In order to put a topper on my toddler's birthday cake, I made a 3D figurine using it. Making it into a sphere was an easy process as well as cutting, coloring and molding. As well as the flavor, I liked it.
When I ordered, I didn't read the description carefully enough, so I was surprised when it arrived in a small tube. My main source of almonds and almond products is marzipan. Unfortunately, in Hawaii, marzipan is difficult to get, it doesn't seem to be widely available there. In spite of living in the most expensive place on earth, and a place where anything western is exotic, this was an expensive purchase (not greatly so) but I paid about 20% more than I would have had to pay if I bought it at my local supermarket. Although the quality is comparable to other marzipan in tubes, I would not buy it again at this price, since I can get it down the street for significantly less, and it is easy (and inexpensive) to prepare, which I anticipate doing the next.
The taste of marzipan is heavenly to me. Having it for the 1st time when I was a kid was a wonderful memory. Apparently they were made by hand in an Italian bakery and came in a variety of I loved the softness and comfort of the material A delicious dish. Marzipan makes me think of being a kid, and I usually buy it already in fruit shapes, which is hard. This Marzipan did the opposite, it made me think of being a kid again. This is so great!.
There is always fun to be had. As part of Easter decorations, grandchildren paint symbols and objects using small brushes and food coloring. Put whole cloves and allspice into the recipe.
Making candy and using this in recipes is a fun way to use the product. I don't like it either too sweet.
