Questions & Answers
There is no way for me to know if freezing them would affect their texture. Nevertheless, these are pickled herring, and you can store them in the fridge for a long time as long as you use a sterile tool to remove Despite having a "best by October 2016" sticker on a jar of pickled herring that I bought a month or so ago (at my local Walmart, if you can believe that) it still tastes good.
Belarus is located along the Baltic Sea and is the source of the filets. It has not caused me any health problems to eat them for ages. You are free to make the decision.

In terms of texture, there are a few options Despite being supposed to be soft, the texture of the filets was very tough and chewy. As a rule of thumb, one should be able to spread the Matjes filet across a cracker to cover it completely Due to the shape of these filets, this was not possible. A second consideration relates to taste It's hard to describe how juicy these filets were, but they were hardly saturated with the sweet/spicy flavors I associate with Scandinavian Matjes herring. The taste of them was more like that of fresh herbs My pickled herring ended up more like a supermarket variety than the gourmet delicacy I had Belarus is definitely not Scandinavia, for this herring comes from Belarus Even so, they call it "Matjes," a word with meaning! Third, Packaging I almost consider this to be deceptive advertising - especially at such an inflated price!
They were extremely difficult to open, and had to be foiled several times before being put away. As soon as I discarded the bags, I placed the herring into a glass jar and put it into the refrigerator. In the end, in desperation due to my disappointment with the taste and texture of the herring, I added a few spices I know to be in "classic" Matjes herring, and marinated the herring properly in the refrigerator for several hours. I thought the taste had slightly improved a few days later, but the texture of the Matjes was still too tough and firm for genuine Dutch As a result, I have the following It is not worth the money spent on this brand. Buy a Matjes Herring that is Scandinavian classic. This is the last time I will use this brand!.
The fish itself tastes extremely salty as well. To complement it, I also added chopped tomatoes and other things I didn't normally put together Ingredients with a strong salty flavor balance out the sweetness. The food was a nice relief from my cravings for Dutch street food, but I won't be buying any more.
As far as this type of herring is concerned, I think I am somewhat of an expert. This product is extremely awful, even my cats won't touch it, and it costs a lot of money. If you appreciate excellent food for your money, stay away from this product. The herring is a favorite of theirs.
While waiting for delivery I saw the exact product online, and I was shocked at the price. It was $3 for the same size and product. My price was $43 for the exact same item that cost $49 to my friend. For two packages, you would be charged $ 20. It was very difficult to eat the fish when we ate it from the first package because the fish was very soft and slimy.
I have a receipt for proof
I have a receipt for the claim. Within two hours, both my husband and I had become ill in the bathroom. It is without a doubt that everything was ruined and I would never buy something $33 is a total waste of money.
Normally would have given it five stars, but the item is way too expensive.
In the past, I have bought these at a store and they were large and thick, great for putting on a roll or a loaf of bread. There were small pieces of cheese that had to be piled high on the bread to be tasted. These pieces cost great deal of money because they are cut off at the ends.
The oil I bought them in I didn't know they were packed in. My favorite part of making pickled herring was making it myself. The jar has been topped up with onion and lemon. I am very pleased with the results. The fillets were perfect size for a bite.
Thank you very much, that was delicious and met my needs for Amsterdam food.
