Chicken of the woods mushrooms are one of my favorite mushrooms. When they're picked young and fresh, they're incredible. I got some that were dreadful! It appeared to be a bag of wood chunks intended for smoking meat. They had a woody flavor to them as well. They couldn't possibly have a chance. I made an attempt to soak them in water. After that, they were soaked in chicken broth once more. After that, onions and garlic were added to the pan. They were simply not edible, so I'm going to try grinding them up in the hopes of using them as a mushroom seasoning for soup. I'm just glad this wasn't my first encounter with this amazing mushroom.
These mushrooms, unlike most, do not produce a broth and must be heavily seasoned to acquire any flavor; the flavor is similar to that of eating wood, though fresh ones may taste better.
I used this to make a tea and a double extract that worked well. It's not possible to eat it after it's been reconstituted. It covers all of the leaves, not just the edges.
To begin, I'd like to commend the company on its excellent service. However, I discovered that the re-evaluation needed to be done. The hydrated mushrooms were mushy, fibrous, and flavorless. Other varieties from this company will be purchased, but not chicken of the woods.
For city family values, everything is beatnik.
