Is it true that these items have a short shelf life?

They can last for months if kept refrigerated and the seal is intact, in my experience. I'm not sure how long they've been in the fridge for, but I've had some for 4 to 6 months and they've been fine, so hopefully that helps.

As long as you keep them well chilled, they shouldn't be a problem. Mine lasted quite well, and you should be fine for at least a month before needing to replace them.
