Questions & Answers

Is there a set of ink cartridges included with this printer?

The idea that you'll only be able to get 15-minutes is ridiculous. The claim that this printer doesn't come with ink, as well as the fact that there are 20 black and white prints of strictly text, is ridiculous. br>br>There is a "starter" set of ink included, one black and one tricolor. You should be able to get 75-80%. Before it runs out, you can print 100 black-and-white text pages. I recommend that you look into the HP Instant Ink program because it offers the best bang for your buck. Depending on how many copies you print, the cost per page will be comparable to remanufactured cartridges, but you'll have the assurance of using OEM consumables.

Is it possible to print using an iMac?

Possibly, but most likely not. I can't print to this printer from my iPad when I'm using the condo community wifi to check my email because the printer is recognized as a network. I can print anything on my device, but I can't do so while connected to the internet. I'm stumped as to why this is so. My options are to either give everyone access to my printer or to keep data I only want to print on hand at all times.

Is it possible to print without a color cartridge or with an empty color cartridge? I don't want to buy color cartridges because I only print in black. ?

What type of ink cartiges do you need to purchase when you need to replace them? 932 and 933 are the most recent additions to my collection. Is it possible to use them if I need to purchase a new printer? The print head is missing on my HP printer.

Is it possible to connect this directly to a laptop instead of using WiFi?

Sure, it is possible. Any USB Type-A port on your laptop can be used to connect to the printer. A Type-A male USB cable with male connector B On the back of the printer, there is a cable socket. I hope this information is useful.

It's possible that you'll be compelled to pay a monthly fee
3/5

This printer has a lot of potential. It prints well, is quiet, and can be connected to a WiFi network for wireless printing. My main beef with this printer, and with HP in general, is that once you buy the printer, you're locked into a monthly subscription. It will compel you to sign up for a monthly subscription that allows you to print a set number of pages. If you're a student or have a job that requires you to print a lot of documents, prepare to be charged by HP. They will give you 15 free pages to print per month, and if you print more than that, you will be charged $1. 00 per set, plus applicable taxes And I understand that $1 isn't a huge sum of money. But the entire reason I bought a printer, ink, and goddamn paper was to avoid having to pay for printing! I would have gone to a LIBRARY if I had wanted to pay to print my documents. At the very least, it would be the only thing I'd have to pay for, as opposed to everything else. It completely misses the point of having a home printer in the first place! br>I'm giving this printer a one-star rating because the monthly subscription to print my documents irritates and angers me. The ink is on its way to me! The paper is on its way to me! I'm not buying any bootleg ink because I don't want to mess up my printer's colors. Why am I required to pay a subscription in order to print my own documents? Why must I pay a higher price? It offends me greatly. I despise it so much that when I'm done with it, I'm going to look for a printer from a company that isn't trying to take advantage of me. br>If you don't print a lot of documents and can handle the 15-page limit, I suppose you should get this printer. If you don't, you'll have to pay more to print your own documents.

HP's instant ink scheme is a complete rip-off
3/5

off. This is a ruse. Do not be fooled.   HP's instant ink scheme is a complete rip-off. off. This is a ruse. Do not be fooled. If you choose to end your "membership," HP will deactivate your printer cartridge, rendering it useless. I paid approximately 20% of one ink cartridge for more than $60.

Do not use enclosed ink cartridges if you do not want the instant ink program
3/5

Instant ink technology from HP is included. ready-to-use ink cartridges that can only be used if you join the instant ink program. You'll need to purchase additional ink cartridges if you want to use the printer without using the instant ink program.

They don't seem to mind that they've already squandered hours of my time and left me with nothing
3/5

It's not a good idea to purchase it. A few months after I bought it, the brand new printer I received began to have alignment issues. Before they would finally replace the printer for me, I had to go through several hours of completely unrelated troubleshooting steps. Now, a few months later, the replacement printer has its own problems: I deal with paper jams several times a week, and the touch screen and power button randomly stop working; the only way to fix this is to unplug and re-plug the printer. Support will not assist me unless I call them as soon as the problem arises. They don't seem to mind that they've already wasted several hours of my time and that I won't be able to call in during the week. The convenience of the Instant Ink service was the only reason I chose this printer, but that convenience isn't worth the time I'm spending dealing with support. br>br>Update: I gave up on dealing with HP support and received a refund from Amazon, despite the fact that it was slightly outside of the return window. As usual, Amazon provides excellent customer service.

Canon, I bid you farewell
5/5

HP is easy to use, intuitive, and doesn't cause any frustration. free! Quick summary: This HP Officejet 3830 is a great choice if you're looking for a low-cost, reliable printer that's simple to set up and use. br>br>Set-up It takes less than 15 minutes to set up, and it works with all of your devices that are connected to the same wifi network right away. There's no need to download an app (though it does have a good one if you're into that), and no special computer setup is required. br>br>Installation: br>br>Installation: br>br>Installation: This printer is completely self-contained. The touch screen isn't very big, but it's a lot more responsive than the one on my old HP Envy 100, so it's actually a step up for me. You should be able to use this with ease if you can use a regular-sized touchscreen smartphone. Ink: br>br>Ink: br>br>Ink: br>br>In After comparing the prices of ink cartridges for ink jet printers from various manufacturers, I discovered that they are all comparable, but I prefer HP because (1) it only requires two cartridges (black and color), and (2) it is the most affordable. Other printers, on the other hand, frequently require one black cartridge and three or more color cartridges*. (2) The HP Instant Ink program (which is an optional extra) is less expensive and more convenient. *I'm aware that some people have expressed dissatisfaction with the single-color cartridges, preferring to save ink by using individual colors. That complaint has elicited two responses from me. First, I've found that when one color is out, the other colors aren't far behind, so the convenience of the combined cartridges is well worth it. Second, any ink waste produced by the combined color cartridges is insignificant when compared to the "waste" produced by separate color cartridges. One cartridge, one sealed package, one paper insert, and one outer box are included with combined color cartridges. Three (or more) plastic color cartridges, three sealed packages, three paper inserts, and three outer boxes are included with individual color cartridges. That's a lot of waste!br>br>Other issues: The paper feeder is the only other issue that has been brought up in Amazon reviews. A few people have apparently complained that it grabs multiple pages at once, resulting in paper waste and jams. I've noticed that the paper does not always fully load into the feeder, which can result in this problem. The paper feeder is a little awkward, but I don't have any problems as long as I make sure the paper is properly and fully loaded. In the grand scheme of things, this is a minor flaw in a printer that otherwise performs admirably. Long Version - br>br> Canon vs. HP: br>I literally gave away my brand-new Canon MG7520 printer and replaced it with this HP Officejet 3830, and I'm very happy with it. After my trusty old HP Envy 100 shattered after a spill on my desk, I went online to look for a replacement printer. I've always had HP printers at home and at work, but I wanted to find the best value, regardless of brand. br>br>Despite the fact that expert and consumer reviews were mixed, printers received a 4. On one website, I received an 8 out of 10 rating, and on another, I received a 4 stars on another, and I noticed that Canon printers were consistently rated as the best of all the major brands on most websites. I purchased a Canon MG7520 on sale at Best Buy as a result of my research. br>br>Though I'm not a computer expert, I've set up a number of similar printers for myself and my family, and I knew it wouldn't take more than 15 minutes to connect my new Canon printer based on my previous experience. I finally packed it up and donated it to Goodwill after wasting over a month and countless wasted hours trying to get it to work (the Best Buy return period had long since expired, and I didn't want to waste any more of my time, even if it meant selling it on Craigslist). br>br>Over the course of a month of futile attempts to get the Canon printer to print anything other than the Printer Connection Settings sheet, I tried everything I could think of to get it to work with any of my devices. The installation disk that came with the package was used; I manually installed the drivers after downloading them from the website. I followed the instructions in the box as well as the (different) instructions online, and I even spoke with Canon customer service a few times. Nothing seemed to work. br>br>After waving the white flag, I went to Amazon and bought this HP Officejet 3830. It arrived in two days (thank you, Prime!). It printed from my desktop, laptop, phone, and tablet in ten minutes and 47 seconds. I didn't have to read the instructions at all. HP installation: br>br> Connect to the internet, enter the wifi password, insert the paper, and print. br>br>Installing Canon br>br>Canon br>br>Canon br> Plug in, select LAN connection type, enter wifi password, download app, change LAN connection type to "offline" set up, register printer, change LAN connection type to "online" set up, try to connect, if connection fails even when connected, try to decipher cryptic installation instructions, start over, and so on. br>br>Does Canon produce higher-quality photos? I'm not sure, but it's been said. If you're looking for a printer that will primarily be used for photo printing, Canon may be the best option. However, if you're looking for a printer for everyday use in your home or small business, I highly recommend HP, specifically the HP Officejet 3830. It's simple to implement and effective. Oh, and the photographs appear to be in excellent condition.
