Questions & Answers

Is it possible to use toner cartridges from other manufacturers?

That seems to be the case. "The printer can be configured to use only new, genuine HP supplies," according to the "Cartridge Policy" setting in the web interface's settings/supplies/supply settings. Genuine HP supplies that have been used in the past—or non-HP supplies that have not been used in the past In order to keep printing, HP supplies must be replaced. You can choose between "Off" and "Authorized HP" for this setting. "Off" should, presumably, enable you to use non-standard characters. HP offers a wide range of products. By default, it's turned off.

hp, I have a question for you: Is a full-capacity 58a cartridge (rather than a "starter") included with the printer?

Yes, at 3,000 pages, the 58A is at full capacity.

Can someone explain the "chip" in the cartridge and whether or not you can use a compatible cartridge instead of an HP brand cartridge, as well as how this "chip" plays a role?

The chip is HP's attempt to keep non-HP cartridges out of circulation. However, youtube videos exist that demonstrate how to remove the chip from an HP cartridge and replace it with an aftermarket cartridge.

Is there a duplex scanner?

I recently purchased this printer after receiving the following response from the HP Team: "Yes, single-function printer." scan in both directions "br>br>Unable to complete the duplex scanning in one pass and email it. On the printer menu, there is no option for a duplex scan. Could you please explain how to perform an automatic duplex scan from the ADF and scan-to-email? email it.

Selected User Reviews For HP LaserJet Pro Multifunction M428fdn with Built-in Ethernet & Duplex Printing (W1A29A)

It's a keeper, in my opinion
5/5

We are a small security consulting firm that uses a lot of technology in our office, and while we have higher-end HP products in use (DesignJet plotter, large-format color laser and inkjets), my go-to HP product is the HP OfficeJet. for such a low-cost item end, multi-faceted Brother has been the most popular brand of function or standalone printer. It's simple to set them up. The cost of consumables is reasonable, and they've proven to be dependable workhorses when set up, configured, and used. "Why not?" I thought when the opportunity to test the HP LaserJet Pro Multifunction M428fdw Wireless Laser Printer via the Vines program arose. " I figured I'd get a new Brother HL-XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX I decided to try out the 54700dw on my credenza with the HP to see how I liked it. I already have an older standalone Canon DR2580C scanner that meets my needs, so I planned to test the HP unit and then use it elsewhere before returning to my regular workflow. This baby is not going anywhere! br>br> br>br>Let's start with the basics. Keep in mind that this is intended for use in an office setting. I was able to set it up without consulting the manual, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't technologically savvy. You plug it in, follow the instructions on the front panel LCD screen, and then go to HP's website (123. hp. com). hp. com) and follow the on-screen instructions to download the software. It installs everything without prompting you, and the attention to detail is superb. A minor quibble is that I had to go through the fax setup as well, despite the fact that I (and I suspect most people) will not be using it. There should have been a skip button, and it did let me exit without testing, so you don't have to connect it to a phone line, but entering fax information was a waste of time. br>br>There are a lot of nice touches in terms of construction. The 2. The 5" color touchscreen is surprisingly useful, and you can tilt it to avoid glare with a pivoting bracket. It's just sensitive enough to get the job done. There are no false triggers, double actions, or frustrations in this game. There's a power button on the front panel that's easy to reach (my Dell and Brother printers all have power buttons on the back or side). The graphical icons are simple to understand, and the trays open easily and intuitively. It comes with a standard (estimated 3,000 page) HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied HP-supplied The printer came with a 58A toner cartridge installed, not a starter cartridge, and removing and replacing it was a breeze. A 10,000-point bonus is available as an option. HP- page (approximate) There is no doubt that a 58X cartridge is available; The cost of HP ink cartridges is high. The tens of thousands of dollars A Brother 8,000-page cartridge costs around $225 on Amazon. It costs less than $100 to purchase a page cartridge. The fact that HP toner cartridges include the drum, whereas others require a separate (usually 30,000 page) unit, offsets this only partially. Still, be aware of the cost of consumables before you start, and if this is a concern, plan accordingly. This printer does not appear to allow the use of non-standard paper at this time. I don't use off-brand cartridges, but I do use HP cartridges. in any case, brand-name supplies br>br>I'm a big fan of the way they perform. The printing speed (40 PPM) and quality are both excellent. For fine shading, "Standard" mode is preferable to "Higher Quality. " I printed from a PC, a USB stick (which printed Word and PDF documents without a hitch), and even my Samsung Galaxy S9 phone wirelessly. The monthly duty cycle is rated at 50,000 pages, which seems excessive to me. I didn't try to break the paper trays (one manual and one 250 page), but they appear to be a little flimsy for that kind of use. I had no problems with jams or paper handling, and the duplexer's operation is both inexplicable and fascinating to watch. br>br>After fiddling with the setup software, scanning was also simple. It can scan to a network folder or a local folder on my computer, and it can also scan to PDF and other formats. Scans were crisp and clear, easy to implement from the front panel, and quick. I like that you can set preferences in the software but override them as needed from the front panel. I couldn't get the unit to scan to email, which is a feature it offers, but I figured it was due to an ISP or firewall setting and didn't want to look into it. Copies were excellent as well, nearly indistinguishable from the originals, and the ability to copy both sides of a 2-sided sheet was particularly useful. It was useful to be able to complete a two-sided document in one go. Overall, this printer is a keeper. br>br> It does everything you could want and more, is attractive, quiet, and fast; I've ordered the optional 550-sheet lower paper tray (which I'm paying for), and I intend to keep it in my office. Just know what you're getting into in terms of consumables costs, and don't manhandle the paper trays, and it's an excellent choice for a small office or higher-volume environment. Highly recommended for a high-end home office. EDIT 2019- br>br> A question was raised about whether or not genuine HP toner was required. While I will continue to use HP supplies, I wanted to learn more about this. NOT WIRELESS IN THE SENSE OF THE WORD
3/5

I'm not sure what will happen in the future because it's brand new, but so far the printing and scanning quality has been excellent. Because the document feeder is so small, the scan may not be perfectly straight unless you place your documents JUST SO. This printer, on the other hand, is only compatible with the 2. The frequency is 4 GHz. So, if you have a 5 GHz router, this printer will always drop the connection; however, my modem supports both frequencies (at least according to AT&T). This supposedly WIRELESS printer is working because it is connected via an ethernet cable, so it is NOT REALLY WIRELESS. Be wary of the buyer!.

It's possible that it isn't optimized for Mac OS
3/5

Well, it's good when it works. It prints quickly, but there are some issues with connectivity between the unit and the I Mac.
1. I can't seem to print PDF or JPEG files. The document will not print due to a limitcheck error. I receive a printout that contains the error message. I checked the HP Community website and it appears that other Mac users are experiencing the same problem.
2. I'll print something and it will appear to be printing in the print dialog box, but it will never be printed. I'm not getting any error messages, so I'm not sure what's wrong or where the print job went.
3. Scanner isn't communicating with the iMac, so I'm having trouble scanning. I took a picture of the error message from my scanning software, as well as the color screen on the printer, which states that the computer and scanner are not connected.
4. Pages that are missing- I printed a six-page document with receipts that needed to be paid, but only five of the six pages were printed. The print job was simply terminated after the fifth page, with no error message. A three-page pdf file had the same issue, with the last page not printing. Each page must be printed separately. br>5 A new error message has appeared on the screen, 0005FB6. What does this mean? I'm not sure. br>6. My printing jobs have vanished. It usually prints quickly, but some pdfs take a long time to print, possibly a minute per page. br>br>I have both AirPrint and a USB cable connected to my computer. Sometimes it appears that the connection simply breaks down. ==> The computer must be unplugged and restarted. br>br>I bought this because I used to have an HP 1200 printer that worked perfectly for years! There has never been a problem or a jam. I'm missing her terribly.

The HP M428fdw Wireless Laser Printer is a wireless laser printer from HP
3/5

This HP monochrome printer is exactly what you'd expect from a HP printer. Elegant and simple to use Installing it is simple, and the output is of high quality. br>br>This is an excellent complement to a color laser for monochrome documents with high output. It's much faster than our HP color laser, and having two printers on the network is very convenient. br>br>HP has installed a "Dynamic Security Enabled Printer," which appears to prevent the use of non-HP toner cartridges. Non-genuine toner cartridges may work at first, but they may not work in the long run, according to the warning. br>br>I've always used generic toner in my HP printers with no problems, but if this is the direction HP is going, I'm going to reconsider my brand loyalty. br>br>As for the printer, it works quickly and produces crisp, clear results. The scanner, as well as the duplex mode, work perfectly. I can't think of anything negative to say about the printer in terms of operation. br>br>If you don't want to be forced to buy expensive toner, you'll have to decide for yourself.
