Conversation is too slow and difficult
3/5

Yes, you get what you pay for most of the time. As a result, I'm not shocked. This device can translate words and short phrases into five different languages, but the interface is not user-friendly, and the small screen only shows about two or three words at a time, so you have to constantly space the " It always throws out error messages, even for simple english phrases, when you press the " button to reveal the rest. br>I can't imagine using it to communicate while sitting in a restaurant. The waiter would be on break by the time you figured out the right words. br>Perhaps back in the hotel room, with plenty of time on one's hands, one could come up with some key phrases and memorize them. br>I think I'll do better with my Berlitz pocket phrase book, where I can just turn to the appropriate section and read it off the page.

multi-tool that fits in the palm of your hand a traveler's lingua franca I have a copy of Rick Steve's three-volume set, and I think it's a good buy for the money
4/5

A traveler's language guide. This was purchased as an add-on to the book. An instruction pamphlet is included with the translator, which I keep. Without the pamphlet, I've discovered that using the translator takes some time. It's small, but it's packed with essential information for five different languages. It should prove to be an invaluable resource for anyone planning a trip to Europe.

Not a great start

It misses a lot of the words I type in from my weekly Spanish magazine.

For those who are just starting out
3/5

The Franklin Translator is an interesting concept, but it's only for beginners. You won't be satisfied with the vocabulary available in this tool if you aren't a complete beginner in the language.

It's a small device that's difficult to work with
3/5

I tried to figure out how to make use of it. I was able to complete a few translations, but one of the translating books does a better job overall.

Meh
3/5

Only a few options are available. This isn't true. In a foreign country, it was of no use to me.

For some reason, it didn't work for me
3/5

This product did not appeal to me in the least. In fact, instead of taking my camera to Italy, I brought my dictionary. It was difficult to use the translator because it was slow. The phasing was pre-written and had no bearing on my situation. The product did not appeal to me in the least.
