I finally gave up on the Sony Disc Explorer 400, a 400 disc CD/DVD player I've had for many years. To find out if other owners were experiencing the same problem, I ran a web search. As it turns out, the problem is with the rubber belts that turn the disc carousel and operate the loading mechanism, which become loose over time to the point where they fall off It's not too late to buy a package of two replacement belts Having watched a video on replacing the belts, I decided that doing so was a fairly straightforward operation, so I purchased the belts in the hope of having my player working again. In spite of the fact that they were just $10, the belts are worth it. This would cost you at least $195 and hundreds of dollars to replace the player. I found replacing the belts to be quite easy, and the new belts proved to be more durable After it was reinstalled, the player worked like new. It is highly recommended that you replace the belt on 400 disc players with this kit. These are a few ways to do that The videos provide information on how to replace the belts that you can watch to determine if you should do it.
A Sony would have probably charged around $100 and would have charged additional shipping fees.
The Sony CX995V 400 DVD player I had died, so I fixed it up with this. You could have done that yourself, there are You Tube videos to guide you. Over time, the belts had stretched and would not operate the turntable or disc drive. You will need to remove the cover and loosen the top and sides of the PC board to get at the belts, then reassemble the board. One Philips screwdriver is all you need for this project.
It was fortunate that the parts fitted to make the job successful.
I was very satisfied with these belts. When I replaced the loading belt, I was unable to load any discs at all. The Sony player now functions as though it was brand new. In the end, I saved hundreds of dollars by using these belts instead of buying a new machine.
My Sony ES CX777ES DVD Changer was damaged, so I bought this to fix it. There was a problem with the door. As soon as the belts were replaced, the unit was able to function again. Having my DVD changer back in working order is nice.
There was a problem with the original DVD player bands melting. It was this belt replacement that got the unit backed up.
