Questions & Answers

Is this "real" leather or "fake" (PU) leather? Is there a smell to it when it's brand new?

It's not easy to buy leather goods. It's difficult to tell what kind of leather you're getting, what level of quality you're getting, and whether you're paying a fair price for the quality when there are so many industry terms to learn. The following section explains some of the terms used in the leather industry when discussing leather quality. PU leather, pleather, and synthetic leather are all terms for the same thing: artificial leather. Leather that is not real. Artificial leather can be made from a variety of materials and methods, some of which are superior to others, but it isn't real leather at the end of the day. br>Split Leatherbr>Split leather is made from the fibrous portion of the hide that remains after the top layer of the hide has been removed. The grain of the rawhide has been separated from the hide, and the top-side of the hide has been split. There is a distinction between grain and drop split. The drop split can be further divided into a middle split and a flesh split (depending on thickness). The middle split can be divided into multiple layers in very thick hides until the thickness prevents further splitting. Bycast leather is split leather that has an artificial layer applied to the surface and is embossed with a leather grain. Suede is made from splits as well. Suedes made from grain splits (with the grain removed completely) or flesh splits that have been shaved to the proper thickness are the most durable. Suede has a "fuzzy" appearance on both sides. Suede is made from full-grain leather using a variety of techniques. grain. A reversed suede is a grained leather that has been designed with the grain facing away from the visible surface of the leather article. It isn't considered suede in the traditional sense. br>Bonded Leatherbr>Bonded leather is made up of a mixture of natural and synthetic materials. It is made up of small pieces of leather that are ground up and mixed with synthetic materials to give it a leather-like appearance. Because the content of leather varies between brands, this is one of the most unpredictable types of leather in terms of quality. If you want the real thing, stay away from bonded leathers, just like you should avoid fully synthetic leather. br>Genuine Leatherbr>Genuine leather is genuine leather, but it is made up of scraps from the two higher quality levels. Genuine leather is often made up of several layers of lower quality leather glued together, and the exposed part of the leather item may be painted to look like higher quality leather, obviating the need to see the real leather. br>Top Grain Leatherbr>The process of sanding away the natural grain from the top surface of the leather is known as top grain leather. To give the leather a more uniform appearance, imitation grain is stamped into it, but there is no genuine grain. The term "top" can be perplexing to those looking for the best leather because it implies that it is "the best" in terms of quality. br>This is a good leather in general, but it isn't as strong as full grain leather because it doesn't have the top layer. Top grain leather, on the other hand, will not age gracefully with use. br>Full Grain Leatherbr>This leather is made from the top layer of an animal's skin. Full Grain leather is the "top of the line" in terms of quality. The best upholstery Full Grain leathers should show off the natural markings and grain characteristics of the animal from which they were sourced. Full Grain leathers are made from higher-quality hides or skins that have not had their surfaces sanded. Full Grain leathers are dyed with transparent aniline dyes to give them a natural look and feel. br>Full grain leather may have minor flaws, which is a sign of its superior quality. When the animal was cut, it already had these blemishes on its skin. Full grain leather is also the most durable, which means it will age gracefully over time.br>Some brand name products use leather from animals raised in an environment where their skins will not be damaged during their lives.br>There are three other terms not covered above.
Pure Aniline Leather

Pure Aniline leather
Pure Aniline leathers fall into the elite 5% of Full Grain Aniline Full Grain, True Aniline, and Naked Aniline, as well as Natural grains, are other names for these grains. Pure Aniline Grains are sought after by those who appreciate the natural characteristics and markings of the highest quality hides and want the softest leather.
Semi- Aniline grain leathers are slightly more processed than Pure Aniline leathers. They are given a minimal amount of manufactured coatings to hide minor surface flaws but not the hide's natural characteristics. Aniline grains are among the top ten best-selling grains in the world. 15 of Full Grain leathers br>Nubuckbr>Nubuck is a type of aniline leather with a velvety texture and a luxurious appearance. The grain has been brushed and polished but has not been processed. When you run your hand across the surface of Nubuck, it will change color. Nubuck's grain has a velvety appearance and feel, and it's slightly higher quality than suede, which is actually the inner side of the skin that's buffed into a soft nap. br>By lightly scratching the leather's surface, aniline leathers can be identified. It's possible that the leather has an aniline grain if it scratches to a lighter color. You can also test the leather's surface by lightly rubbing a wet finger or a protection cream into a hidden area. It's aniline grain leather if it darkens slightly before drying invisibly. br>Corrected Leather Grainsbr>Corrected Leather grains are classified as Top Grain Leather. Sanding, buffing, stamping, and dyeing are all part of the process for these leathers. The goal of this treatment is to achieve a uniform appearance that is free of insect bites, barbed-wire, and other blemishes. Wire scratches and other environmental markings that might appear on the hide. Corrected Leather Grains fall into the next 18% of leathers .
Grains of leather below the 18% mark should not be used in the upholstery of your next leather furniture purchase. Is it possible to easily fold the cover all the way back?

It's very simple to fold back. I've never had to fold it back, though. The cover is light and easy to hold (even with the Kindle inside). My old Kindle's covers were much heavier.

Is this case compatible with the most recent version of the Paperwhite?

Please keep in mind that this is a 2015 question. This case will not fit the current 10th generation "newest" kindle paperwhite (as of July 2019), but it will fit all previous generations.

What are the case's measurements?

I'm not sure of the exact dimensions, but it fits the Kindle like a glove. It's very thin all around, and there are no straps or other mechanisms to keep the Kindle in place; it just fits snugly. br>I had an older Kindle and an older cover that used a couple of straps to keep it in place; this is a much better method and much thinner, and I would say it is by far the best cover out there, despite being a little pricey.

Persimmon is far more appealing than it appears in this photograph
5/5

With over 20,000 reviews, there isn't much more to say about how fantastic this cover is. However, I wanted to provide some clarification on the color "persimmon. " In Amazon's product photos, it appears to be a bright orange, but it's actually a deep red. if it's not slightly pinkish red, it's orange- In certain lighting, the color orange appears. I would've called it "coral. " " Whatever you want to call it, it's a lot more appealing than what's on display. I've included a photo of the cover with a few familiar objects to show how it compares in terms of color. I hope this information is useful to you.

I recently traded in my much-loved car for a new one that is adequate but not revolutionary
3/5

For a Paperwhite, I used Kindle Keyboard, and the upgrade was a huge step forward. But in this case, I'm undecided. br>br>I had the official Amazon case for the Kindle Keyboard, which was much less expensive and of much better quality. For the money, I'm a little disappointed with this case. br>br>Let's start with the good news. The color choices are fantastic. In the end, I decided to buy an Ink Blue cover. The photo makes the blue appear much deeper and more 'blue' than it actually is. It's a dark navy color that's completely flat. It has a nice hand-feel, and the front and back are upholstered in textured leather, with a brushed silver "Kindle" magnet along the clasp side, and the hinge is very sturdy: When I wrap it around my Kindle while reading, I have no fear of it ripping. The Kindle Paperwhite fits perfectly inside, and the rubber top and bottom portions that hold it in place keep it firmly in place. I like how you can turn the Kindle on and off by simply opening and closing the cover. While on, it does give the Kindle a good deal of weight. That may be a positive for some, but it may be a negative for others. br>br>Now for the cons. Because there is no band to keep the cover closed, the front of the cover wobbles and shifts when I hold it or carry it. The magnet isn't particularly strong, and even the tiniest movement of the front of the leather case causes the Kindle to turn on for a brief moment beneath it. That was a shoddy design. executed. I expect the front cover to stay perfectly secure while closed for the price I paid (as it did in my previous case, which cost less). Finally, the sides are rubber (imagine an iPhone's edge bumper). Personally, I believe this appears to be a bit shoddy. The focal point The top and bottom flaps don't sit flush when closed because of the edge magnet. br>br>Don't get me wrong, it's nice enough, and I'm nitpicking a little, but at this price point, I believe nitpicking is justified when there are better options available for much less. In the end, this is an appealing case. I just don't think it's any better than some of the third party options that are literally 75% less.

Even after being run over by several cars, the Kindle is still going strong! This cover has been in my husband's possession for several years
5/5

He carries his Kindle with him almost everywhere he goes. He left his Kindle on the top of his truck a few years ago. We stood there watching it take off and crash into the road at 50 miles per hour. Before we could turn around and get it off the wet road, it was hit by a couple of cars. We returned to remove the potential road hazard, convinced that we needed to order a new Kindle right away. The cover was scratched and looked a little ragged, but the Kindle was undamaged and worked flawlessly! Awesome!.

This is a premium case! a helpful hint This case is half the price and comes in like-new condition if you purchase it used
5/5

When buying in this way, the case is extremely valuable. Go to "used" and select it. new" to learn about Items that are reasonably priced and have been lightly used! This is a luxurious case! br>br> On my kindle, I've been using a cheap "finite" case for the past three years. It was fine because it was thin and light. It served its purpose, but it started to show signs of wear after a while. The glazing had completely worn away, exposing the fabric beneath, and the cover was peeling away, revealing the hard plastic beneath. But in this case! br>br> In my hands, this case resembles a Bentley. The leather has a natural feel to it and is soft to the touch. When you press down on the front flap, it gives a little. It isn't completely flat; there appears to be some kind of cushion beneath it. For extra protection, the case's edges have been rubberized. The on/off feature works flawlessly, and the silver 'kindle' clasp on the side is both stylish and functional. My kindle fits snugly inside the case. When compared to other less expensive options, this case is well worth the $40, but you can get it in like-new condition for less than half the price if you buy it in the "used" section.

For the quality, it's way too expensive
3/5

It may be labeled as leather, but it feels like very cheap hard plastic, which is not what I expected given the description's emphasis on genuine leather. This case feels like it's only worth $10 at most when compared to much higher-quality iPod and Samsung cases; it may do the job of being a case, but there's no reason it should cost nearly $40. This is the case for you if you want a leather case that doesn't feel like leather.

It does a fantastic job of protecting your Kindle
5/5

Sure, the cover's excellent fit and appearance have been widely publicized. br>I'll just mention two recent incidents that occurred as a result of my inability to hold a lot of things in my hands. br>br>I recently purchased a new laptop and failed to properly carry it in a bag, so I was holding the laptop, kindle, and other items in my hands. br>The first incident occurred when the kindle fell out of my sweatshirt pocket. br>It fell and bounced on the rough asphalt, resulting in a badly scraped cover and a small nick on my Kindle. It would almost certainly be destroyed if not for the cover. The second occurrence was. br>br> today. When I was holding my laptop, the kindle slipped from my grip once more. br>It bounced hard on the asphalt right at the corner, twice, so two of the corners now have really bad scrapes. br>The cover slid open slightly before snapping shut again. br>As a result, there was no damage to the Kindle. br>br>For $40, is it too pricey? Sure. It took me three years and multiple kindles to acquire this cover, but it was well worth the wait. br>Until an incident occurs, you cannot appreciate the value of some protection.
