Getting a USB 3 hub was the one thing I had to get for my 2019 iMac and out of the countless models I saw, I chose this SmartQ hub. Since I do not think I need individual buttons for on and off, I ruled out all those hubs. The more stuff that can break, the more power that is wasted. It was important for me to get a desktop hub that is easy to operate and that comes with a long cord. Lastly, I would like to get one with an option for supplemental power, just in case. There is just the right amount of room for you to move it around as well as not having excess length that would reduce It is a very light hub (although sturdy), so I was concerned it might not stay put. However, it does, and I am very pleased. For me, this hub is perfect. *. . . For some reason, I was unable to select anything on its four USB ports (although most times only one would work). In a test, I used my bluetooth mouse exclusively with the hub and it charged fine. If the hub had a low power output, charging may become impossible. An external power supply was connected to the hub's micro USB port, and a 5v power supply was hooked up to the hub (I have a charger from a retired hotspot which is exactly 5 volts and has It is likely that I will not have to use the optional power for this hub because my external drives are connected to the iMac's Thunderbolt port. My jsaux USB audio adapter came at the same time as my SmartQ USB 3 hub, so I bought both together. Connecting the jsaux audio adapter to the USB hub is the first thing I do. As both the hub and the iMac use USB 3, you can connect either device to the other. In Jsaux, the device is shown to run at USB 2 speeds, as opposed to USB 1 (Gen 1). The jsaux adapter produced excellent sound, so I wrote a review of it -- This is a highly recommended book. The USB hub I use at work is my favorite. A second one will be ordered for my This hub is a refreshing change from my old hub because it is faster at transferring data between two external hard drives. It's not that I'm a pro at this stuff, but I've dealt with enough computer crashes that now I backup everything in two and three places - ever since I started this whole thing a few months ago. As I am always copying stuff from one hard drive to another while at work or bringing home files, I am always putting stuff on one hard drive and taking it on.

Batteries for phones, watches, and other devices were charged quickly and without any difficulty. Despite its slack, the cord remains out of the way and is not too long that it would be difficult to use or obstructive.

I hooked up my device easily. Windows 10 did its bit about the driver automatic update and the device works 100% perfectly under Windows 7 and 10 Under Linux, Raspian OS, and pretty much all of the other systems I tested it on, it worked very well. There was one issue, the cable could have been a little longer, but that is not a huge deal since I knew what I was getting. There are extra USB ports on my laptop so I can plug in my printer and a few other items. Considering I don't own a USB camera myself, I can imagine it would function just fine through this hub, if necessary.

With my USB 3 connection, I was able to make use of it. The only problem was that it failed to power up all of the devices I hooked up to it with only one interface, as well as an extra power source through its Micro USB socket. As well, it messed up with my laptop's USB configuration and I shut down an unrelated USB port, so I had to go to Device Manager to disable and re-enable it in Windows. This port must be enabled and the laptop must be restarted once it is enabled. Immediately after doing that, the USB port turned on, however, when I tried to connect to the hub later on again, the other port turned off also, and I had to repeat the Device Manager process and restart to restore There is a limit to how much patience and time I can spare to spend on such a crappy device, and so I never inserted this USB hub again.

We received Smart Q in a timely and safe manner. As I connected it to my desktop computer, I connected my Fitbit 3 to the Smart Q which appeared to work for about 50% of the charge and then my watch reported that there wasn't enough power being transmitted to continue charging. It would be a disappointment for me if that is what it's used for since that was one of the main reasons I purchased it. Fair enough, I'll give it another shot when the time comes and hope for the best. Faith L.
