This is a genuine Prolific device that requires a Prolific driver to work. This works right out of the box when you plug it in. br>It appears to be the same product as the StarTech serial device, which works as well. br> There are a lot of counterfeit prolific serial ports on the market that don't work.
This is fantastic. I purchased an RJ45 USB to Ethernet adapter from Cable Matters for my MacBook Air, which worked flawlessly, and I'm now using it on Ubuntu to connect to a Cisco router/switch. It worked without a hitch, and I'm very happy with it.
If you forget to download the driver, your computer may not function properly. The documentation includes a link to a website where the driver can be downloaded. For the time being, three stars. We'll see how long it lasts because it's made in China, and Chinese products are notoriously short-lived.
