The power supply in my Dell Alienware Aurora R7 has been upgraded to an EVGA G3 gold 850W unit from the OEM. EVGA power supplies did not come with a cable for running the Dell DVD drive. However this cable can be used to connect any open SATA Power connector with the Dell DVD drive. The system is working fine.
On my Dell XPS, I upgraded the power supply, but there was no connector that would fit my slimline DVD drive. I'm unaware of why DELL installs a laptop DVD drive in an XPS. My search for the correct adapter cable was extensive, but I found exactly what I was looking for on this site. My electronics store F@#s did not have what I needed, not even the biggest shops. A braided sleeve seems like it would be too fragile without it, so I like You just need to connect 15 and 16 The 6-pin is connected to an extra SATA port, and the 6-pin goes to a spare SATA port Attach the pin to the back of the DVD drive.
It does exactly what it should. It is not uncommon for customers to complain about length and connection type however, all that information is available before purchase, so why should customers complain? The item I found in my small parts container was not what I had thought it was and I don't remember purchasing it, but I still give it 5 stars because it is exactly what it says it is and it performs as it should for.
In the process of installing my computer, I installed a new modular power supply that did not include any cables to connect to the DVD drives. Plugging this adapter into one of your power supply's Sata cables and then plugging the other end into your DVD drive is easy. The cable feels solid and well-made. Everything seems to be working well so far.
My XPS 8920 came with a new power supply, so I bought this to go with it. Using this would allow me to connect the optics drive instead of the one supplied with the aftermarket power supply. There is a good quality cable and the connectors are I can see why it cost a little more than other items. Spending a little extra is well worth it.
I replaced the power supply in my wife's ASUS PC with one bought from Best Buy when the original failed. Because the new one didn't provide the necessary connector to power my slim DVD drive, this adapter was necessary. I was able to repair the drive correctly, and now it is working.
We recently purchased an EVGA Gold 850 power supply to replace the one installed in a Dell XPS laptop. It appeared the EVGA did not have the right cable for the internal DVD player, and the company's technical support couldn't suggest a viable solution. Five minutes on Amazon found the necessary cable.
I purchased this to replace the Dell adapter that came with an Inspiron 5675 DVD drive. My DVD drive has been working as it should since I hooked up the cable to the new power supply, attached the other end to the DVD drive for power.
