After some research online, this cable appeared to be the most common culprit, as well as the trackpad. This cable appears to be quite fragile, so I decided to replace it first as it would be the most cost-effective solution. Upon replacing my trackpad and keyboard cable, I found that both the keyboard and trackpad were functioning again. As the first and least costly solution to this problem, I highly recommend you replace this cable if you are experiencing this issue. It was the best thing I could have done!.
It doesn't work. I bought a toolkit and this cable in the hopes it would work. The answer was yes! Somehow, this MBA cable was corroded for some reason (no spilled fluids on it). Although I am not sure how much a repair shop would charge, I am sure I saved a lot of money by doing it myself. As of today, we are still using the MBA daily and the repair is going smoothly.
As well as others, I had the same problem. I spilled some coffee a few days ago. On my macbook air, I had the laptop open. 91 percent isopropyl alcohol was used to clean most of the board. Once dry, let it sit for a few days. As you might expect, it did the trick. I had a laptop the last week that turned off, keyboard and trackpad were lagging and not functioning well. Opening the container and cleaning the area again, I saw that the corrosion had affected the ribbiton. Ideally, you'd want to clean all ribbon ports that are easily accessible with isopropyl 91% (100% would be best but 91% is available at CVS). This was used as a q-tip. After a short period of time, I plugged it back in. Then I decided to either buy a new ribbon or just buy a whole new keyboard trackpad cover on Amazon for $25. It was decided to try changing the ribbon since KT was obviously corroded, and the ribbon change worked perfectly. My battery on this machine has already been replaced twice as I use it a great deal and the second battery was fried by coffee spillage.
