(See my photo and their photo). The screws did not have a black gasket where they attached. 2* B* B++ This might be caused by the base of the trackpad not lining up properly or the screw heads not being machined precisely. The device fit, but it became stuck against the case once the screws were attached because it was pressed against the case. This is an extremely tight tolerance. You need it to be perfect or else you won't use it. I returned the product. Because of things like shipping times and potential for error, I chose to replace the product with another vendor.
The quality was just as good as OEM. A sudden glitch in the trackpad on my MacBook Pro 2013 resulted in the laptop being unusable. The trackpad jumped around randomly and clicked around the screen, causing the computer to become unresponsive. Since I purchased it two months ago, the trackpad has worked great and I haven't had any problems. Although installing the trackpad can be a bit iffy due to the need to remove the battery, this is just because the battery must replaced first. Replace your battery at the same time if you decide to make this repair. You have an older battery, so I recommend replacing the battery too. New trackpad and new battery? You wouldn't believe how well this laptop has performed since it was new!.
The trackpad is integral to the function of the computer, so I was reluctant to buy one that did not come from Apple. Nevertheless, it is just as good as the original Apple product. The aftermarket parts fit perfectly and there is nothing to indicate it is an aftermarket part. So far, I am happy with the replacement part, but I am going to wait and see if the purchase is as promising as most replacement parts.
Installation is relatively simple on a 1398 MacBook Pro retina mid 2012, and can be completed in around 30 minutes if you're familiar with removing the battery. If you're replacing the battery, this is a great time to do so.
It would have been better if I had done it earlier. My take on it was that removing the battery was the most challenging part, I had to replace mine too, so I needed to tackle that as well. The trackpad is surprisingly easy to remove and install once you have that battery out of the way. YouTube has a couple of videos that outline step by step how to do it. Worked and felt the same way it did when I purchased my Macbook.
A trackpad was shipped out to me immediately and it worked as described. I appreciate it!.
Getting it replaced was like getting a new laptop, as it perfectly fitted and worked as intended.
I had no problems with it at all.
