UPDATE: My Boogie Board's sides are starting to bleed, what should I do? I can no longer take notes around the sides of my board, and despite the fact that these are supposed to come with a one-year warranty, my emails to the company have gone unanswered for over two weeks. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the brand, and I would recommend buying these in a store rather than on Amazon, where you can return them with a receipt. I've included photos of how the board currently appears when I'm taking notes. The blue spot that forms, as well as how the lines appear to bleed down the screen, are visible. Despite the fact that my board was not exposed to the elements, was not crushed by books, or was otherwise damaged, this still occurred. This is a lifesaver for medical students! br>I use this every day while studying to practice drawing mechanisms, diagrams, flowcharts, and other things, and it's so much easier than carrying around a whiteboard or extra paper and pens. Granted, you can only use one color, but that hasn't been a problem in the past. This was also a lifesaver for me when I was studying orgo and biochem and needed to draw out the seemingly endless structures (ugh). Your screen is cleared with a single click, allowing you to start a new drawing. br>br>It's also the same thickness as an iPhone and weighs the same! br>Don't be fooled by the product's childish name or marketing; it is NOT intended for children. br>Oh, and did I mention it makes everyone else in the library envious and amused? It does, after all.

My autistic 4-year-old son has never liked to color with crayons, and he prefers to write with pens on paper, but he becomes very aggressive and does not stay on the paper. There are iPad doodling apps, but if he has an iPad (which he adores), he'll be watching YouTube kids rather than drawing with his finger. br>br>I was hoping that this device would entice him to practice his pencil holding skills and dexterity, save us from going through a lot of paper and pens and getting unwanted ink all over the place, and hopefully entertain him for a short time at church, haha! It's thin and light, which I like! I can easily stow this away in any bag and forget about it. The marks that appear are a vibrant green color that is very appealing. Adults and children alike will find the flat pencil-like stylus that comes with the board easy to hold and manipulate. I like how the pencil clips into place at the bottom of the board, so you don't have to worry about it floating around in your bag or getting lost, but you still have the freedom to write freely, unlike those magnetic doodle boards with a string attached to the stylus. My son likes that it looks like an iPad and that he can erase and start over as many times as he wants by pressing the "home button. " br>br>Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Yes, it is battery operated (a 13V battery is included)br>- No, it has no internal storage, can't connect to computers, and can't save pictures or doodles. br>- With a free app on your phone or tablet, you can scan and save/share your images. br>- It has magnets on the back so you can easily stick it to a refrigerator to jot down notes, display artwork, or whatever else you want. It's secure enough that it won't fall out if the fridge door slams shut. That is a fantastic featurebr>- The screen does respond to the amount of pressure you apply to it (as shown in the image). br>- Neither the writing nor the erasing are delayed in any way. It happens instantlybr>- Be aware that writing along the screen's very edges will cause the lines to blur and even change color in some places (see image). br>br>Overall, this device is well-made, compact, and cool. It does exactly what it says it will do, and it does so very well. We bought one for our son for Christmas, but it broke down after only a couple of days. It was possible to write on it, but when you pressed the button, it would not clear. I assumed it was a bad battery, but I didn't want to pay $5 for a new one, so I returned it to Amazon (Amazon service was excellent as usual!). ) I purchased a replacement, but it failed to clear again after a few days. We discovered that if you left it alone for a day, it would sometimes work for a short period of time before stopping. br>br>Once again, I made the error of assuming it was the battery. So I emailed the manufacturer for a replacement battery, but in the meantime I went out and bought one for $5 for my son to take on a family weekend getaway. It didn't make a difference whether the battery was used or not. As a result, I put my multi-tasking skills to good use. I used a meter to check the batteries, and they were both fine - Both the original and the new version are available. br>br>I am a handyman who fixes a lot of things around the house, including small electronics. I've dismantled and replaced parts for digital cameras. Even a stupid trinket toy that one of my sons received as a freebie at a birthday party was repaired by me. So I looked inside the Boogie Board's battery compartment and assumed the battery connectors weren't making good contact, so I bent them back into place with a very small screwdriver. I was able to get it to clear once, but that was the last time. This isn't something I'm going to mess with. I'm returning the second one and will not be purchasing another. br>br>[Updated] Kent Displays contacted me after a few days and requested the unit serial number, which I promptly provided. I received an email stating that a replacement would be sent out as soon as possible. I received another email with the UPS tracking number a short time later. The replacement has been working perfectly for a few weeks now, so I believe there was a batch of defective units sold through Amazon. br>br>Item is in excellent condition. My son enjoys using it, and the manufacturer stands behind it; I can't give it five stars because of the first two issues, but I am much happier now. My son's pen is fat. On his recommendation, a pal (yes, that's still a thing) got one. br>br>Thank you, Kent Displays, for putting things right. br>br>[Updated again]br>The most recent replacement has stopped clearing after 3 or 4 replacements. Each one I received lasted a little longer, with the most recent one lasting a couple of months. I could email Kent again, but I don't think it's worth it; they've been helpful in sending replacements, but what's the point if they all die? br>br>This had a lot of potential, but it turned out to be a huge letdown.
