Questions & Answers

Do I still need a poe injector if I have true poe cameras, or will this switch let me connect four camera feeds to a single nvr receiver output?

All is well as long as your cameras follow the 48V POE standard, which has been adopted by Cisco, Polycom, Yealink, Grandstream, and others. Some consumer-targeted devices, on the other hand, cheat and use 12V power injectors with their own inventive pseudo-power supply. POE uses 12V wall warts wired into pairs of Ethernet cable with their own (cheap) "power injectors" that aren't compliant with the Ieee POE definition. I've yet to come across a POE inserter that runs on 48V and isn't compliant, so the voltage of the wall wart that comes with the product will usually point you in the right direction.

Is this 10GBE compatible?

No, it's just a gigabit switch with a single GPS. Also, this switch does not have any uplink ports; however, some switches (mostly managed high end) do have uplink ports that can handle 10Gbe.

Can vlan tags be passed through this switch?

Yes, according to another user's review here. It transmits VLAN tags in their original state.

This isn't a power over Ethernet switch
3/5

This isn't a POE switch, so don't expect it to work. YOU MUST BUY A DIFFERENT SWITCH IF YOU WANT TO SUPPLY POWER TO IP CAMERAS, FOR EXAMPLE. br>br>I'm old and stupid, and I didn't realize it until it was too late. br>br>For POE connections, you'll need the GS110TPv3. br>br>I brought this by accident and didn't use it until I wired my extremely complex security system. When I plugged my cameras in and didn't get any power, I spent time with their very professional customer service to learn that this wasn't a POE device. br>br>I had to register the device, upload an app, and create an account in order to use it. In contrast to the TP-type, the TP-type is a type of To replace it, I bought a link device that was literally plug-and-play. br>br>Despite having good customer service, NETGEAR refused to let me return the device I had, so I'm out $60 (or whatever this cost was). br>br>Wouldn't recommend solely because of the poor customer service and returns.

Ports are being shut down at random
3/5

For the past 20 years, I've worked in layer 2 networking and as a software engineer. This switch shuts down ports at random, usually for three minutes. 4 seconds, with up to 4 seconds being possible on rare occasions. Countdown to five seconds When the port to which my laptop is connected shuts down, it shows no network connection and the link light goes out. This is a switch that should not be purchased. It isn't a dependable source of information. I got a replacement after returning the first one. The problem persists on the second device as well. The problem does not appear on any of the other switches that I tested. I think I gave it a fair shot. NETGEAR needs to address some basic issues with the switch. *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** 16 UPDATE **
On this issue, I collaborated with NETGEAR. Thank you, NETGEAR, for your excellent customer service! I'm still not sure what the underlying issue is, but I think I've got a good idea of what's going on after some more troubleshooting. I have two laptops with the same issue, one of which is significantly worse than the other. There are no issues with the switch on my third laptop or desktop computer. The Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller cards appear to have a hardware compatibility issue or a driver issue. I used a TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK TP-LINK Use a USB to Ethernet adapter to connect your computer to the internet. That adapter is in perfect working order and the switch is not causing any issues. I have no plans to change my one-star rating at this time, but I do retract my earlier statement accusing NETGEAR of being the source of the problem. As I previously stated, the exact location of the problem is unknown. At the end of the day, my advice is to stay away from this product until Realtek or NETGEAR, or both, fix the problem.

MY ENTIRE NETWORK WAS BROUGHT DOWN
3/5

I have a Fios Quantum Router with a Gigabyte of bandwidth. I have two Axis cameras on the poe side, and the switch stopped working after two months. Not only had my cameras gone dark, but my entire network had gone dark as well - not to mention my external wireless The Amplifi system is a system that allows you to increase the volume of your music. br>In addition, I've noticed that my cameras are going offline on a regular basis. br>As others have mentioned, customer service is virtually non-existent. br>WARNING: DO NOT INTERACT WITH THIS PERSON!.

Registration errors, updates are impossible, and error messages appear in the GUI
3/5

I just got this Netgear GS308EP and hooked it up to my network yesterday. A pop-up appears as soon as you enter the GUI. "An error occurred while accessing the registration server," says the error message that appears. Check your Internet connections and give it another shot. br>br>My internet connection is working fine, and everything is connected via that switch. I tried manually registering the product in "settings/manual registration," but I received the same error. I attempted to update the firmware (from V1) to the most recent version. 4 to V1. 6) I received the same error message. br>br>I used Amazon Global Shipping to purchase this item. This unit would be heading back to Amazon right now if it weren't for the costs of returning it. br>br>Avoid this type of nonsense by looking for something else. This is the first and last time I'll be using Netgear equipment. There are a slew of questions in the Netgear support forum about the same problem with a variety of Netgear products.

Only one of my three 15 watt Pakedge WAPs will be able to be powered
3/5

I had planned to use this to power and distribute data to three Pakedge wireless access points, but it will only power one of them. Each WAP uses 15 watts, and this switch claims to have a 63-watt power budget with a 30-watt per-port limit, but only one of the three WAPs works with this switch. I've tested and verified that all of the WAPs work with POE on other devices, so it's just this one that's broken, and I'm stuck with it because I'm past the return window. DO NOT PURCHASE FOR THE PURPOSE OF POE. At best, this is an ok regular switch.

The best value for your money
5/5

It really works. The best value for your money. It really works. br>I'm using the power over Ethernet (PoE) feature. br>It has a better feel because it is housed in metal. br>br>The only drawback I discovered was that it was increasing. It is not worthwhile to deduct a star from the rating: br>The mounting points on the underside are convenient, but they can't be used at any angle because of their design. If you want the ethernet ports to face to the right when mounted against a wall, for example, it won't mount solid. The screw head will not "slip" into the slot (giggity) at that angle, so it will be loose in that position. It works, but it's a little shaky and not well-secured. When the ports are turned to the left, however, the screw head can slip in and secure the mount. I hope that was clear.

Does not provide enough power for a 55-inch PTZ camera
3/5

Cat5e for 65 feet. This was purchased to power two security cameras, a 4 megapixel bullet camera and a Loryta (Dahua) SD49225XA-PTZ Loryta SD49225XA-PTZ Loryta (Dahua) SD49225XA-PTZ Loryta (Dahua) SD HNR. The PTZ only uses 22 watts of power. On the 50' run, it wouldn't even be enough to power the PTZ. After I shortened and cut the spare cable I had lying around, it powered the bullet cam. What's worse, a standard POE Netgear 8 switch (GS108PE-1) isn't working. Because it had the bullet cam and another powered up at a longer run through the same conduit, the 300NAS powered the non-POE bullet cam better than this product. br>Needless to say, when I discovered that my signal on the cat5e was good and that the terminations were clean, I promptly returned this. A power injector was bought and connected to the above-mentioned 8-port POE switch. This switch will not solve any power problems. br>Instead, get a power injector and put this switch back on the shelf.
