Questions & Answers

Do you have any idea how this compares to the more popular SE2500? Apart from appearances. ?

", according to Linksys customer service. They both perform the same functions. The SE3005 is constructed of metal, whereas the SE2500 is constructed of hard plastic.

Is it possible to rack mount this switch?

These answers apply to switches with eight, sixteen, or twenty-four ports. Although the 8 and 16 port switches lack rack ears, they can be mounted on a low-cost rack shelf (you don't need one that is particularly deep). Rack ears come standard on the 24 port switch.

Is there a fan in there somewhere? If so, do you think you'd be able to hear it in a quiet office?

I realize this is a long shot, but does anyone know what type of fan the LGS124P, 24 port, POE switch has? If at all possible, I'd like to replace it with a higher-quality, quieter model. Thank you for your time and consideration.

The description is deceptive
4/5

It was something I never used. I just handed it back to you. I deducted a star because the photos in the Amazon description are deceptive. One of them mentions rear Ethernet ports and front activity lights, which is exactly what I'm looking for and thought I'd get. However, this is not the case. Both the ports and the lights are located in the front of the building. It's more of a rack mount than anything else. I went back to the Amazon page for a second look, and there is a photo of the actual configuration there as well. It is necessary to remove the deceptive image. This switch will not work with my desktop configuration. I don't see why it wouldn't be a good choice.

BEWARE! As of July 2018, the design of the 8 port SE3008 has undergone significant changes
3/5

BEWARE! The design of the 8 port model SE3008 has significantly changed from what was previously described. br>A new SE3008V2 model has been released that is completely different. br>br>On July 17, 2018, I ordered two of these units with the front panel lights and rear panel ethernet and power jacks oriented the way I wanted them. br>Unfortunately, I received a model SE3008V2, which has all of the lights and ethernet jacks in the front and only the power jack in the back. br>I'm blaming Linksys for not naming this device something else. br>Further information can be found at br>br>I'll have to return these and look for something else.

Remove the incorrect image from the website; the image for this item shows rear Ethernet ports and front activity lights, which is exactly what I wanted and thought I was getting
3/5

br>I purchased a switch from this seller a month ago and had no issues with it. br>Ordering two more switches from the same seller resulted in two switches that looked completely different. br>In the case of both switches - In front of you are ports and lights. It's more of a rack mount than anything else. Because I wanted to put it in an open area of the house rather than a closet, it would be quite unsightly.

Review of 16 ports
5/5

This is a small switch (as seen in the photos). When shopping for a Power Over Ethernet (POE) switch, look for one that supports the POE protocol, has cooling fans, is rack mountable (if needed), has gigabit Ethernet support, and has a total power budget. It's worth noting that most POE switches only provide power to half of their ports; the other half are unpowered switch ports. A total of 80 watts of POE power are available. br>br>This switch checks nearly every box. Because it has no fans, it is completely silent. It has a gigabit Ethernet port. It is compatible with the most recent POE protocol (on 8 of the 16 ports). It produces adequate power (anything larger will almost certainly require fans). Only rack mount ears are missing, and there is no way to add them. I just bought a shallow depth rack shelf for that purpose. br>br>Each port on the switch has a light that indicates whether or not it is receiving POE power and whether or not it is operating at gigabit speeds. It has an overall LED that glows if the total POE power drawn is greater than 85% of capacity of capacity of capacity of capacity of capacity of capacity of capacity%.

In September of 2018, the format was modified
3/5

There are now Ethernet connectors on the front, as well as LEDs. The design of the SE3005 has changed between July and September 2018, and the Ethernet connectors are now located on the front. If you have this on your desk, it's a pain because you'll have a tangle of cables in front of you, and the cables will usually pull the switch to one side. br>br>I have one from July 2018 that has the connectors coming out of the back. br>br>Sending it back and looking for the "older" version with the connectors on the back.

Only 8 POE ports are available on the 16 port! The description is extremely deceiving
3/5

The "16- The term "Port PoE Switch" actually refers to a switch with only eight POE ports and eight NON-POE ports. POE. The fact that only half of the ports are POE is not mentioned anywhere on this product page (I even looked for "8" on this page). br>SELLER: if you're looking for a unique way to express yourself, this PLEASE EDIT THE DESCRIPTION AND/OR INCLUDE A PHOTO OF THE BOX WITH THE WORD "WITH 8-HOURS" ON IT. "Power over Ethernet" port br>I should have paid more attention to the photos, because it appears that only the first 8 ports are poe. Before purchasing, I should have read all of the reviews. Oh well.
