The NETGEAR R6700 V3 Nighthawk AC1750 (and the Asus AC66u B1) supports network speeds of up to 1750Mbps Added for the year I have updated the review at the end
4/5

The two best routers under $100 are the Asus AC66u b1 and the Netgear R6700 V3. Both of these are my own and I'll compare them to each other in this review (there is a quick recap at the bottom). *Hot****
Let me list a little history on both hardware options, the Netgear R6700 v1 was basically the R7000 but without a USB port and is incapable of connecting at 600mbps. 4Ghz radio channel (useless unless you have a client that supports AC 1900). it is often sold in Amazon Warehouse, so it is necessary to be cautious when buying used R6700 routers. Performance of the Mediatek chip is subpar when compared to Broadcom's. With the new V3 version Netgear switched factories again and now uses the Broadcom BCM4360 & BCM4708C0 CPU & radio chips from Broadcom

This Asus AC66U (no B1) was originally a draft AC router but later it was produced using the same CPU chip and plastic housing as the Asus RT-AC66U With the addition of an AC radio, it becomes a N66U. In order to make the new router work, Asus used the exact same hardware as in the Asus AC68U 1900 AC router and placed it in the old AC66U B1 router while keeping I am glad to report that the AC66U B1 router is a 1900ac, not a 1750ac. This is true since I have a 1900AC WiFi card in my PC and it is actually capable of connecting at 600mbps on my home network. There is a WiFi signal on Channel 4. do not have a 1900 client, then the point is moot most clients are 2x1 or 2x2, including modern cell phones and laptop computers. As the Netgear R6700 v3, the Asus AC66u B1 uses the Broadcom BCM4360 radio chip, which is the same CPU as the Asus AC66u B1. There is also an option for optional firmware (if interested) (both will run ddwrt & a 256MB chip). The routers use a combined 128mb and 256mb of memory and support beam forming. As well as Merlin's Asus Firmware, the Asus is powered by tomatomato. I wrote a review of it and I found the following pros I love the configuration range on the R6700*. Signals at 4 GHz and 5 GHz I was able to get phenomenal throughput using the 5GHz In the main floor of the apartment, I have my router From a bedroom in the corner of the house (about 30 feet away from the router plus the floor and walls) I receive between 80 and 100 Mbps Seeing 85 Mbps down on 5 GHz is while standing next to the router, and I see 110 Mbps down on 5 GHz. Based on my laptop which is connected to 2x2 AC clients, the signal strength is "good". In addition to the excellent download speeds, the 5ghz signal provided excellent upload speeds. The router and firmware have been stable, once I set the SSID there has not been an issue with that and I did not have It took some time to set up the router, but overall it was okay. I'm satisfied with the software, but I had to wait a while to update the firmware. I found the web page fairly easy to use to set up network names and passwords. The aluminum housing of the router helps keep it cool while running. The cons are The Netgear R6700* has a medium throughput of 2. 1 Mbps. This signal has a 4GHz frequency. I received a signal of 65-degrees while there is a strong signal There were 70mbps down regardless of where I stood next to the router or how far away I was from the router. As well as download speeds, upload speeds were also slow. There is no doubt that the router is much larger than the Asus router. I've noticed that Netgear has quite a few phone apps. All of them seem to function well or are even useful. Setup on your PC is easiest via your PC's web browser, rather than the Genia app. There is only one USB port (if you are wondering what the point of a USB port is, then you don't need to worry about this issue)

Asus AC66u B1 has excellent range and throughput. Both the 4GHz and 5GHz frequencies are supported. Whenever I tried to connect the Netgear router I received a I was getting up to 85 mbps down in far corners of the house on 5GHz, but I was getting 70-80 mbps on the Asus The downlink speed in 5GHz is 75 mbps and in 2GHz is 50 mbps. I am experiencing a fast and fair connection on 4ghz with my laptop. I received 100-150 Mb/s when my router was standing next to me A total of 110mbps down on each radio signal. In terms of range, the Asus router has a marginally shorter range than the Netgear router, but it is a better router in terms of speed. The Netgear 4ghz has higher throughput than the Netgear 2ghz. There are far more features in the firmware than in the Netgear firmware, and it is easier to experiment with. I love the Asus app for setting up my router and I find it to be very easy to use. This plan offers a download speed of 600 megabits per second. When you have an AC 1900 clients, then you can use a 4ghz signal. R6700 v3 features a smaller housing than the R6700 v2. On the Aus, there are two USB ports, but on the Netgear, there is just one. I had to start resetting the router after 18 months of no issues because we don't have cable and stream constantly (from 7a to 11p non-stop) with up to eight client connections (phones, PCs, laptops, tablets, and smart TVs). Getting the Netgear router is an ideal choice for those who just want to set up the router and leave it alone while having the majority of their clients on the 5GHz band. The range of the 2 makes up the range of the 3. A good signal is received at 4 GHz, but with a mediocre throughput. If you plan on using version 2, get the Asus. There's a 4GH signal that's more dense than a 5GH signal, or you're planning to use AC1900 clients. The Asus range is a little less than that of the Netgear. The throughput on 5GHz is a bit slower as well. 0), as well as a better app, user program, Although the Asus housing is smaller and will run warmer than the Nighthawk, so it is a good compromise. Update on

almost two years ago and it has gained a great deal of traction. Especially with the current Covid 19 lock down. My thanks go out to everyone who has voted for me. Although I would recommend both routers, there are better options on the market for the money. The Netgear 6700 was down to $65 two holiday seasons ago and is now at an all time high. The Asus ac66u has remained steady It is not wise to invest your money in dated tech that has not dropped in price (or increased in price). Those are some pretty good routers, but what are the best Please note Rather than using the AX router (also called a WiFi router In spite of the fact that AX routers are the future, these current routers include A) features that may not be active yet (ofdma being a key AA feature) and will never be active if new firmware is not released or updated by users. A) many users have problems with older versions of the two. The only benefit of using a 4GHz N client right now is for 2x more throughput in 2. At the moment, 4GHz N clients C) are rather expensive for practical use. The most likely scenario is that your mobile device is not an AX client (if you don't know if that's the case, then it probably isn't). A) 6Ghz is coming and will require new hardware in another year or two, meaning the current AX routers will be nothing more than expensive beta tests. It is better to stick with Wave 2 Qualcomm routers for your money. As compared to the Broadcom equivalent from a couple years ago, Qualcomm SoCs are faster, run cooler, and provide greater stability when operating with most mobile applications. My negative experience is that Broadcom has a better performance with older wireless networks There can be a problem with wi-fi clients so keep Netgear/Asus on your radar if that is the case. I will give you a free beer at the end of the day. This is TP This router impressed me enough to replace my home router with the Link A9 1900. **Pros - Compatibility (I replaced my home router with the Link A9 1900) With 4ghz performance on par with the ASUS AC66U
smaller housing than the Netgear router (bears equal performance to the ASUS, but runs cooler)
you can combine them. In the following, we provide four examples. One SSID name for the two 5GHz radio signals, allowing the clients to choose the best signal (known as smart connect) or have two separate names
Alexa control (you can enable or disable this)
Guest network is available Cons Does not support third party firmware
UI is limited (some)
Can be controlled by Alexa (you can turn this on or off in the UI)
Some older clients may stick to the slower 2 frequencies. There are 6 USB ports in the Smart Connect but 4ghz signal instead of the quicker 5ghz signal, and one USB port is on the back. ( This is not a positive number Most people find it difficult to deal with this factor)*br/
2 The ASUS RT-A
ACRH17 AC1700 (the update to the ACRH13) - Pros - This model features a Qualcomm Atheros IPQ4019 SoC. It also includes the Asus AC66U B1 performance for around $20 less
Great Asus UI firmware
USB The AC66U has 0 ports, four antennas, and runs cooler, meanwhile the AC66U has four antennas but just one USB port (if you need more than one) and does not support Asus Airmesh software, in addition to merlin firmware.

The ASUSWRT firmware is super fast, and the VPN service of IPVanish works right off the bat! No flashing needed! It works great! I bought it today and I'm so happy with it! As well as the R6700v2, I bought a Netgear R6700v2 to test the different devices
5/5

The main thing I wanted was a router that could cover over 2000 Square feet, but I also wanted it to be able to support VPN services like IPVanish for Even though the Netgear worked well, the firmware left much to be desired, and this meant that no VPN access could be had without flashing to DD-WRT. It is not an option for the R6700 either to use WRT or It's the B1 version and it has completely new hardware and it works like an AC68U with a slight tweak to one RF ID. I just got this one installed today and I've been running all my tests and this is an excellent device. Furthermore, the Asus router comes with a lot better firmware out of the box, but I updated my firmware right away online to the latest version, which was released Unlike stock firmware, this firmware has a lot more customization options. The best part is that it allows me to connect to my IPVanish VPN service directly through this firmware without having to flash to stock firmware Most people who know about flashing WRT or Tomato know it can be a long and complicated process and there is always the risk of it not working and bricking your device. The ability to perform this VPN service from within the Asus firmware is a HUGE advantage! The device works well and the lights are bright. The device is not as big and bulky as the Netgear, which is nice for me! I'll review in a few months to let you all know how well it holds up after the break-in.

I love this router! The range is insane! The wireless range of this router is by far the best I have ever experienced on a commercial home router
5/5

In my 20 years as an IT specialist, I've built up a lot of experience. The range of this router is the thing that makes it so attractive. This router is truly plug and play for the most part. My device works just as well outside of my house as it does inside and I can take it just about a quarter of a mile outside and I still have one to two bars of reception and get pretty much the same speeds as I do inside. The brick wall separating me from the is the only thing standing between us. I absolutely love this router. I think it is one of the best routers out there. As I've seen on other products, this also seems to apply to this product. It is not uncommon for me to be able to wirelessly connect from 300 feet away only to find that I cannot maintain a As an ASUS router, I must say that it is truly impressive. I have to cross a brick wall to reach my house from 25 miles outside. Including down my driveway, I have completely covered my 2 acres of yard. A great feature is also the USB interface. The external hard drive I use for external movies and pictures is filled with digital movies. I was able to stream my movies and photos off the router after downloading the ASUS support apps. (I did need to purchase a $3 recommended app for this to work). It is also possible to use USB 2 with your computer. Loading times for zero interfaces are near the bottom of the list. Three steps in a flash. It's even better with 0. It has been just over two months since I have owned this router. The only issue I found with it was something 99% of people wouldn't even consider, but I will mention it anyway. You will have luck if you plan to make use of this device for tethering. I tried everything we could think of, even contact ASUS tech support, and no matter what I tried it just will not tether without a USB cable, regardless of how long I spent trying (firmware updates, etc. ). It is possible to use the second Cisco router as a bridge and I am able to do tethering without a USB cable, so I am not complaining. Honestly, I think this is a great product, well worth its price. Don't waste your money on a Cisco/Linksys/Netgear router whose range is a fraction of what this one can handle. I firmly believe that if you are looking for a new router that has a wide range, is easy to setup, and has easy control methods, this is it.
