Questions & Answers

Is this WD Red drive covered by the company's three-year warranty? Is there a one-year guarantee? The product description does not mention it. ?

I had a problem with some of the WD Red drives I bought on Amazon. br>After experiencing a failure, I contacted WD for a warranty replacement. br>I was informed that the drive I had had only a one-year warranty, not the three-year warranty. br>The drive serial number began with WD, indicating that it was a single-disk NAS drive. The warranty on those is only one year, whereas the other drives have a three-year warranty. br>I can't tell what the differences are just by looking at them, and WD hasn't provided any additional information. br>I was told I needed to contact the seller again to see if the problem could be resolved. br>Because I purchased a number of drives one at a time over the last three years and registered them with WD, I didn't mark each drive, and I couldn't tell which drive came from which seller because the invoices didn't indicate the serial number of the drives. In that situation, I have four more drives. I knew it was within the 3-year warranty period because it was registered at the time I received the drive, but it was past the 1-year warranty period that WD would support, so I had to purchase a replacement. The problem was that all of the drives were in WD boxes with static bags around them.

Is it possible to use this drive in the Apple 3TB Time Capsule to replace the internal hard drive?

Whether it uses a 2 or not depends on the situation. 5in or 3. Whether or not to use a 5-inch drive is a question of personal preference. The specs are probably fine, but I need to know how big the hard drive is. This may be possible based on the dimensions of the Apple device. I'd be surprised if it uses 3 based on the dimensions of the apple. It's unlikely that 5in drives will be available, but it's not out of the question.

Is it possible to install this drive in an external HD case and use it as a single drive media server, or must it be installed in a NAS case?

Yes. In a single-drive scenario, it's possible to use. "NAS drives" are typically slower and built for endurance (higher usage), such as in a NAS.

Why is this more expensive than a 10TB external WD drive like: https: //www. amazon. com/s? k=wd 10tb elements desktop usb 3 k=wd 10tb elements desktop usb 3 k=wd 10t there is no external hard drive ?

The retail storage market is more competitive; NAS and Enterprise drives meet read/write reliability benchmarks 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and typically have a three-year warranty. A 5-year warranty is included. While retail consumer drives may last as long as NAS drives in some cases, their warranties are typically shorter. It's worth noting that removing a hard drive from a retail external enclosure (for use in a PC) will almost certainly void the drive's warranty.

br>br>I've been using WD for a long time, long enough to recognize when something isn't right. The initial sign of a conflict.
Still 100% against the drive who knows
Still 100% against the drive who knows
Still 100% agains it could be brand-new- stock from the past. My next concern is revealed by a quick look at the spindle motor (shown next to a WD black purchased directly from WD). is it refurbished? br>The third strike was a quick warranty check on WD's website (I'm not sure if amazon allows links here, but if you ask, I'll link you to it). This is listed as an OEM product by WD, but it is not covered by their warranty. br>Now that I know the OEM status, build date, and poor "glue" job on the motor connectors, I have a pretty good idea of what I got. br>Now, I've used WD products for a long time, so what's up with THIS drive? I'll leave it up to you to draw your own conclusions based on the information I've provided.

With twice the cache, this is an update to the more common EFRX
5/5

The drive was shipped with its ESD cover on and was snugly tucked between the end caps. enclosed in a large bubble wrap envelope and fitted inside a cardboard box. It was executed perfectly. This appears to be an update to the more common and popular EFRX CMR drive relabeled Red Plus. br>br>Manufactured in January 2021, this appears to be an update to the more common and popular EFRX CMR drive relabeled Red Plus. It has a 128MB cache, which is twice as large as the EFRX. This model is too new to have published benchmarks, so I'm not sure how much better it performs in practice. br>br>No bad blocks/sectors were discovered after an overnight write and read of every block prior to use. So far, everything has gone well.

Warranty Isn't Valid - It Isn't Going To Be Honored By WD The listing's three-year warranty is meaningless; It isn't going to be accepted by WD
3/5

I bought a WD Red NAS drive from Amazon in May of this year. During copying operations in October 2019, the drive's sectors are unreadable. The drive is stamped with a November 10th, 2018 factory manufacture date. This product has a three-year warranty according to Amazon's listing. I tried to register the drive on the WD website and RMA it, but they claim it's an OEM unit or a third-party vendor issue, and the warranty has been voided.

So far, the drives are nice, but the advertised size is way off! I've had far better reliability from WD drives than that other brand that starts with an "S" over the last 10 to 15 years, and these drives appear to be very nice so far (despite the fact that they're only a week old)
4/5

However, keep in mind that the 12 TB model's actual capacity is only 10. 91 TB - which took me by surprise! (I'm aware that hard drive manufacturers frequently round off advertised capacities - However, I've never rounded up to the next even whole number!.

I'M NOT HAPPY WITH HOW IT'S TURNING OUT
3/5

This was purchased so that I could connect it to my ASUS AC3200 router. br>I followed all of ASUS's instructions when installing it. br>br>Hoping to use this hard drive for centralized access to all of my files, I quickly discovered that the computer I used to set up the hard drive is the only computer that can access files from it. br>br>My other two computers in my house can only see the drive exists, but they cannot access any of the files on it. br>br>Furthermore, my router has a DISK HEALTH utility to check the health of the drive, and it is reporting that the hard drive has errors. br>br>So, being a brand new hard drive with these defects defeats the purpose I had in mind for buying this drive in the first place. br>br>This is the first time in my career that I've been dissatisfied with a Western Digital hard drive. br>br>Moreover, the time limit for returning it to Amazon has passed. br>Now all I have is to throw out the hard drive. br>br>I'm disappointed.

In January 2021, an 8TB Red Plus NAS was produced
5/5

So far, the journey has been fantastic. I had no idea this NAS Plus drive rotated at 7200 rpm. It's possible that it's a little louder than the 5400 rpm drives, but unless you're right next to the PC, you won't notice. The transfer rate between drives and across the network is excellent. The temperature ranged from 90 degrees F at idle to 110 degrees F (after transferring 2TB of video) after transferring large files over several hours. I'm running Linux on an Intel 775 motherboard with a quad-core CPU in a standard HTPC enclosure with no additional cooling fans. br>br>For nerds, here are some more details: br>br>Instead of setting up a separate NAS box, I decided to just plug this drive into the HTPC and create a shared network folder. It really works. If you need NAS storage as well as an HTPC, I recommend buying just the HTPC. It will boot from a small SSD, with a second large NAS hard drive configured in the fstab file as a network share folder mount point. Because of OS file security, Linux allows you to mount any size partition as a virtual file system within a shared folder on the boot drive. Note that the partition will only automount when specified in the fstab file, and it will only be shareable if mounted in a folder on the boot drive.

As a TiVo upgrade, it works perfectly
5/5

This drive was used to expand the storage capacity of a TiVo Roamio from 1TB to 2TB. In all of the TiVos I've owned, WD hard drives have performed flawlessly. The previous drive was a WD Red Plus, as well. The cache on this drive is larger, but I doubt it makes a difference. br>br>It arrived in good condition- I was able to use a USB3 to copy the contents of the old drive to it. MFSTools software and a dual dock. Everything worked as expected, and the drive was expanded to its full capacity of 2TB. br>br>One thing to keep in mind is that the drive label does not match the one shown. Although WD appears to have changed the label, the drive is still the one I ordered.

Please be aware - screw holes in a variety of places Shortly after installation, the product was reviewed
3/5

So far, it's working fine, but the screw holes on the bottom/circuit board side aren't in the same place as the one it's replacing. Because there were no product images or information warning about this, my hard drive was only half mounted.
