"Plug 'n Play" is not an option - "Won't play" is a better description
3/5

It hasn't been able to work so far. We haven't been able to get it to play any DVDs. It keeps popping up a window asking me to select a region for the drive; it's set to region 1, which is where we are, and the DVD is configured for, but it won't play. We won't be able to change the region because of this. Nothing happens if we simply click to close it and then try to play the disk. We tried restarting the computer, but it had no effect. We're trying it out on a MacBook Air with OS Mojave and a MacBook Pro with OS Catalina. We contacted the company and received a response four days later that said, "Sorry for the late reply. " I'll take care of it right away. I'll get in touch with our technical team. That was three days ago, and we still haven't received a response. I'd gladly change my rating if the company would either tell me how to fix the problem or tell me that the product is defective and I should exchange it for another.

The DVD player is excellent, but the instruction manual is inadequate
5/5

The drive is in excellent condition. The instructions are difficult to understand. I think you should put a simple set-up on the first page. First, make sure you have DVD software installed before connecting the drive; that information is in there, but you'll have to read through it to find it. I can see how someone might try to connect it before they find that information. Also, I went over and over in the manual, trying to figure out if I needed to connect both the data transfer cable and the power cable that came with it. That information was nowhere to be found. I finally got it to work by plugging the data transfer cable into a USB port on my laptop. It was a perfect solution. However, the inclusion of a cable without any indication of when it might be required is perplexing. So the drive itself is fantastic; a fantastic product; however, you should update your manual to make it more user-friendly. friendly.

I liked a few aspects of the DVD drive, including how simple it is to use
5/5

I didn't want to waste time or effort deciding which software to install. It's also sturdy, which I appreciate. I also like that it has two charging options: USB connection to the computer or its own power cord; I haven't done any heavy work with it yet, but I understand that the separate power cord would allow the DVD player to write and rewrite discs and perform other tasks more easily and quickly. I also like that it's USB 3 instead of USB 2, which means it's faster. Finally, the case is one of my favorites. I looked at some sturdy decent cases and found that they cost between $10 and $15 each, so this is a good deal. This Guamar 5 in 1 External CD DVD Drive is a product that I strongly recommend.

This is a fantastic DVD/CD burner
5/5

I'm very pleased with the burner. It went above and beyond my expectations. The item is well-made and comes with a stylish carrying case. My main motivation for purchasing this product was to duplicate all of my CDs. You must buy the upgraded software in order for the artists and songs to populate with the correct information when using DVDs on an external hard drive. It was not a big deal because it is inexpensive and does so much more. br>br>It doesn't let you down even when you use it a lot. It still works just as well as it did when I first got it. I would strongly suggest it.

More than anything else, it's a source of dissatisfaction
3/5

The unit is a little less flimsy than the Hobest unit I replaced it with, but it's still garbage. It wouldn't play any of the DVDs I fed it (citing an incorrect country code and refusing to let me fix it), and it only read about half of the CDs I tried. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it has a feature that allows you to manually retrieve disks that refuse to eject (which I eventually became quite adept at), and returning it for a refund was painless. br>br>FTR, I purchased an Apple Superdrive, which is a fantastic device.

Made in China and a $40 lesson
3/5

In late December of 2019, I bought this. I tried it once and had some trouble getting it to work, but I got it to work in the end. I needed to use it today, but it was no longer functional. br>br>By the way, this item is not listed as being made in China anywhere in the description. When you get this home and hold it in your hands, you'll notice that it's very light and flimsy. I should've returned it on the same day I got it. I was let down. You can look them up on the internet. There is no help available, and there is no website. br>br>Do not purchase.

Don't make a rash decision based on price
5/5

This unit has exceeded my expectations. This drive was purchased as an add-on to a high-end Brennan CD ripper/jukebox. Despite the fact that the Brennan comes with an internal hard drive, the instructions recommended using an external USB 3. 0 hard drive. 0 drive to reduce wear and tear on the internal unit while also allowing for a faster rip rate on the external. To cut a long story short, the first unit I bought was in the $25 range and was completely unusable right away. CDs took three loads to start spinning, and once they did, the rip rate was slower than the Brennan internal. I quit, put it back in the box, and returned it as defective after this unit stalled on the third CD; I then decided to conduct a cost-based search for compatible drives and decided that the Guamar drive was worth a shot. When I first opened the box, the difference in quality was immediately apparent vs. I plugged the cheaper drive into the Brennan and the difference in operation was night and day. It had more weight, the drawer seemed much firmer, etc. The drive was detected in a matter of seconds. I put a CD in the Brennan's drive and set it to rip. Wow, the first CD was ripped at a 19X speed! I used this drive to rip about 80 CDs over the course of a few days, and it performed flawlessly. This is a high-quality drive with a reasonable price tag of $50. Don't be a slacker when it comes to your finances. That lesson has been reinforced for me yet again.
