It appears I have found the reason for the problem. Regardless of what I tried, I couldn't get the USB to work until I fiddled with the back of the device After that, it would only work Then, I removed the cable that came with the unit (I had been using another of the same type), sprayed the plug on the cable and the receptacle on the unit with "electronics cleaner," and then hooked it back up. I'm now able to use it without any trouble. I assume that the problems that many people have encountered are caused by the cable connection, maybe by a weak-tight one Connectors on the unit are of high quality. If you are having trouble, you might want to try what I did. In case I encounter any other problems, I will update this review.

Despite all of its promises, it didn't work right off the bat. In the end, I went to the Verbatim website, filled out their form, explained the problem and waited a few The email I received was from them. After explaining the problem a second time, I did not receive a response. issue is that all of the external CD/DVD players/writers on Amazon don't seem to be working right. None of them seems reliable and they all seem to be garbage. In what situation should I act? As a result, my laptop does not have a DVD/CD drive and I want to buy one It would be nice if you could make good use of some old CDs I have. Amidst all of this frustration, I'm frustrated!.

We have several of them. In the old version, you had the split USB cable, which plugged into two USB ports on the It seems they have changed to a single connector USB cable with this revision, which is for computers that are not able to provide enough amperage on one port. No one of the three drives I just received could be recognized by Windows. My first assumption was that I would need a driver first, but Verbatim claims that there is no driver necessary, and they do not provide one online. When I borrowed a cable with a double connector, Windows finally recognized the drive and installed Even though Windows installed the driver, the drive seemed to work fine once it was installed. If you don't already have a dual connector cable for this drive, you may want to consider another drive or purchase a cable separately to use with it, as it is unlikely to work without it. It's hard to find a mini USB connector that fits, either. The connector must also be longer than a conventional connector.

The drive did not write Dual Layer discs, which was the reason I gave it a poor review. A problem with the brand of discs was found to be the cause. DL media did not work with this drive, despite my purchase of Kodak DL media-- I decided to try another brand of discs in spite of my skepticism that another brand would provide different results. (The Kodak discs, however, did work on my internal drive. ) Given this drive is a Verbatim, I thought Verbatim discs would be a good idea. In order to get Verbatim discs I ordered My tests came back positive for all Verbatim discs. In addition, one of the discs burned Next, I tried the discs on the LG, and the results were the same It was successful. (I should admit, though, that I did burn these discs without using the Nero software that came with it. The program I used for burning was The DL discs I am going to burn with Nero should work without issues. I have burnt a few data and audio discs with Nero, so I will try that. *) I did not bother testing these discs with my internal drive.

As of the time this article is being written, I have not tested this drive's M-Drive features. The DISCs do not appear to support the DVD format, but I am confident that they will work. Having learned that the issues may be due to discs, rather than the drive itself, I will revise my review to reflect my support for this drive. * * *As for the software included This software has been around for years and has proven to be reliable and robust. The Nero Express I expected was not here. The most essential element is NOT included, but there are tools that should be included nevertheless The term "is included" should be used.

In his message, he recommended ignoring "incompatibility" error messages and using the program as-is. Not only did it not work, it was never reliable. Trying to describe the problem many times and getting pushback from helpdesk resulted in multiple repetitions Was treated as though it was my fault. Felt talked down to and swept under the rug As you can imagine, I am frustrated. The trial and error process took many hours We ended up downloading TurboTax software directly from TurboTax in order to resolve the error. Whoever is interested in buying a used Verbatim External CD Drive that does not work with the latest Mac operating system!.
