Due to some of the reviews about how the software works, I was sceptical about the product, as I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to technical innovations and experiences. As a result, I tried to research other options, such as using gopro cameras. I had little time, but this appealed to me not only because of the price, but also because it was ready and waiting for me once I got here. For outdoor use, do not limit yourself to the usual options. I was also impressed with the battery life offered by the device. I was short on time, so I did not have the chance to evaluate another aspect, running the power to the camera. With a price of $300 for the kit and enclosure, and given my limitations, I figured it might be a good option. Immediately after I placed the order on Saturday, I received it on Monday via my 2-day shipping method You can try Prime for free for a day. It was Monday morning when we were leaving the lake, so I had to hurry up to get it started. Regardless of how it was packaged, it was great. Two smaller boxes located in the retail packaging contained the camera and all the accessories, and one contained the housing with the weatherproofing. It appears that there have been some comments about how to figure out how this works. During my stay, I had absolutely no problems. It took me 2 minutes to take it out of the package, while my 9 year old opened the accessories box, and I had batteries and memory cards in (one is included, but I bought one that was larger) and the thing sitting there taking up 2 of the table space. The following are two more lapses of my daughter making funny faces as a test. There are only three buttons in total on the entire device. There is only one aspect of this new way of life that might require some adjustment The problem with the touch screen in this "touch screen world" we live in is that the menu navigation is overloaded with these three buttons, similar to the old flip phones. In the olden days, we used phones with two buttons, and one button had primary functions and another was used to navigate I was able to figure it out with no problem. You can start a recording in just a few seconds. It basically starts by turning the unit on and pressing OK twice. If you take the default settings, it's just a matter of turning it on and pressing OK 2 times. I find it not confusing that if you edit the settings like most people do, you have to enter a menu and settings procedure, but I know that most people are confused by it. "Menu" and "time" are two buttons that can be found on the menu. It was really easy to figure out what needed to be done. Then, in a matter of a couple of hours It took me three minutes to set it up on our kitchen table and start recording. I found the videos to be very easy to view. You just have to hold down the 'OK' button to stop the recording. Upon stopping the tape, the message "processing" appears, and then the recording is over. When I popped out the card, I was able to insert it into my MacBook, go to finder/explorer and see it as a drive with a folder. You can download an avi file here. When I click on it on my MacBook, it opens as an There it was in the mov file! There is no doubt that the video quality was great, maybe even outstanding. I thought it looked like 720p. There were no pixels in the image. The details are all very clear, and there are no ambiguities. At the kitchen table, my daughter was being silly for a great time lapse. As a result, I took it out to set it up after this test. There are two thin bungee cords attached to it which stretch nicely and were perfect for wrapping around a tree branch. Although I might have been able to dial it in just a bit more, I'm not sure it would matter given the nature of the time lapse video. The best advice I can give you would be to allow yourself some time to set up and position the camera, then take a test video, take it down, and see on your laptop or computer how it looks, and then adjust if necessary. In my case, the process went pretty quickly. There are going to be some issues with the ergonomics of the setup. The straps are actually very easy to attach to things. I was able to tie a bungee cord to a tree branch in less than a minute using the bungee system. When it is strapped on, though, access to the display and buttons is adversely affected. Although the bungee has enough slack that I could pull it away from the tree a few inches so I could see the display and press My opinion is that it didn't really matter to me. If you want to set it recording and then strap it up as well, that would work fine, too. The mounting bracket is not useful to me, but appears to be useful to others. Anyhow, I was impressed by the speed at which this thing came up and ran. The enclosure has some rubber button "contacts" that allow you to interact with the three buttons of the camera while it is enclosed. Please keep in mind that I did not observe this in any way, and that I believe it to be It may not be possible, but I guess it can be done. However, it would require just the right set of conditions and a very high pressure level in a very spotful area for that to happen, but I suppose it is possible, although it would be Compared to other options, I think this is an excellent alternative for $300. you know of any other weatherproofed time lapse camera setups that can take 30+ days of shots on one battery, I would love to hear about them. As people have complained in the reviews here, they have said they are going to return it for another option, but none of them has discussed what the alternative There is a reasonable amount of ease of use with this app. Out of the box, it is relatively easy to set up. You will find a quick start card in the package, and it is not difficult to take. With this, you can start taking time lapses in less than 5 minutes, but if you want to be very particular about positioning the camera and focusing, you might want to give yourself about 20 minutes. I set up in 30 minutes (I did not fuss with the focus, but it seems to be easy). Focus is not something that should be measured on a screen, so forget about it. Review the video after you have taken a test shot. Rather labor-intensive, but a surefire way to get the job done. It would delight me to pay a couple hundred dollars more to be able to control via an app, and even to be able to see the shooting area in real time for easier setting up & Maybe there are better options out there, but I didn't see anything that jumped out at me for out-of-pocket expenditures I am the There are some box solutions for outdoor long-term battery use within this price range. For many years, I have used time lapse in my research. The previous time I used GoPro cameras, there was an add-on that helped extend the battery life (you can look up the company that makes these battery extenders for GoPro cameras). Using the Brinno's battery extender, a Gopro is less than half the price of a Brinno. It is actually more expensive to buy a battery extension for the Gopro system than to purchase a Brinno, which works just fine without additional accessories. As of today I have about a month's worth of 1/2 hour interval shots of my slow moving research organism on the Brinno, and the results are very promising. There are no issues with the battery life, and the SD card supplied is quite large. A caveat, but it's not Brinno's fault. Some OSX users may find it difficult to adjust. AVI files, which are the Brinno output, cannot be read by Quicktime machines. It is necessary to search for another OSX machine that will read AVI files or to load free software to view AVI files if you are experiencing this problem. You should not conclude that it is just a Brinno issue. It is easy to locate software to read AVI files on the internet and it is free. Tech support from Brinno is excellent, and they helped me solve this issue. There will be a couple more Brinos I will buy for the next hunting Because I am photographing organisms that are only 8 inches away, the picture quality isn't as good as I would like. In terms of clarity, the picture quality is fine for objects that are further away.

This mount is awesome. If you want the brand new model with aluminum mount, you should get it! The cons are As for the output files, the resolution is a bit low at 720P, you have to focus carefully, there is no manual exposure control or comes with ND filters that can be used to help control exposure, and lastly, it is not designed for time-lapse photography. The software does not produce images or raw data for you to edit manually it produces a video file for you to edit. Despite its long battery life and set and forget operation for long periods of time, the closest DSLR setup, if it were made weatherproof, would cost a great deal more and required much more maintenance. A time-lapse or construction project where capturing the subject in general is more important than capturing it in very high resolution is a great point of application for this. I trust the video files that come out of the machine and they can be colored Noised in post. For splendid landscapes, cloudscapes, and oceanscapes For me, a DSLR is the way to go. If you have a grimy job in outdoor construction or assembly, this is a good option. My site had been live for over 30 days now without any issues. Why do I only give it 3 stars? After just one shoot the mounts are rusting off, for some reason these guys are stuck in the stone ages with their sensors, lenses, and resolutions. It is highly recommended that these cameras shoot at 1080P at the very least. It is not unreasonable in this day and age to ask for that.
