Questions & Answers

Is it compatible with the Ad200 Pro? According to what I've heard, some people had trouble mounting this to an ad200 pro. ?

All of the heads are interchangeable between the AD200 and AD200Pro, and they fit perfectly. It has the same shape and fit as the original. Some heads are a little tight the first few times they're worn in and can be a little stiff to remove, but this is true of both the Pro and the regular. Some people struggle with putting a head on or taking one off the AD200(Pro). Either they'll "get it" in time - or they won't. Usually after the first couple of times - or they don't, and they'll struggle with it for the rest of their lives.

I'm curious as to how this attachment compares to using a bare bulb with the AD- What's the deal with the S2 diffuser attachment?

With the H200R, the light is softer, and there are more accessories to choose from, all of which are simple to attach. Because you have a bare bulb in the middle, you won't get the harsh light from the center if you use AD- br>In front of the AD-100 is a plastic cover. S2 causes highlights on people's skin to become grayish; if it is removed, the light becomes too harsh.

Is it possible that the light will remain turned on? Is it just a flash, or is there more to it?

You won't be able to make captures with this light source because it isn't "constant." The AD200 has a "modeling" light mod that can help you aim and visualize. The "ring" flash head, in my opinion, is mislabeled. The camera is in the center of a ring flash, which is a circle of lights. Compared to other small diameter light sources, this attachment creates smoother transitions from reflective to shadow areas. It's a true gem for this purpose and a fantastic tool to have in your toolbox because it's free of hot spots and voids. The light is even and smooth, which is extremely useful.

Is this better, the same, or worse than a softbox with a single bulb?

It would be just as effective to use a bare bulb in a softbox (I use a short, wide cone to catch spill out the back). Its portability with the camera, on the other hand, is entirely dependent on its size; a bare bulb in a 5" bowl reflector with white diffusion cover achieves a similar result. It's possible that this convenience is due to the smaller size - However, the light source will not be as broad and soft as it would be with a 5" diameter white diffusion cover. Which one you choose is determined by your photographic vision. The one does not always have to be the same as the other. The 5" bowl with the bare bulb covered is my personal favorite. However, I can think of a few instances where this would be preferable.

Selected User Reviews For Godox H200R Ring Flash Head for AD200, 200W with Modeling Lamp Spiral Flash Tube for Natural and Soft Light

The best add-on for your Godox AD200 - excellent quality and pattern of light - get one! I recently received my H200R and felt compelled to put it to the test
5/5

The first thing that came to mind (and appears to have occurred to others as well) was to shoot against a background to compare the H200R's light pattern to that of a standard DSLR. the AD-less barebulb, the AD-less barebulb To compare the light spread from the various heads, I used an S2 reflector and a Fresnel head. br>br>Because the light is spread out in all directions (and you wouldn't point the bulb directly at the subject anyway), the power on the Barebulb needed to be turned up. The AD- S2 is a lot better than the Fresnel pattern, but there is still a hot spot in the middle. The H200R has a very nice falloff and a much more even circular light pattern with no hotspot. br>br>Next, I shot the various heads into an umbrella – you can see how the different heads fill the umbrella in several of the other reviews, so I skipped that and instead posted a shot that shows the light spill to the sides when shooting into the umbrella. The H200R has very little light loss to the sides, as seen in that series - (As a result, it's more efficient – the light stays where you want it, giving you more control over where it lands. ) br>br>All right, that's fantastic - That's enough of that; let's see how the light affects some people! These photos were taken using a couple of family members as victims (er, models). There is only one question to be answered - Is it possible to use it without a modifier (e. g. , in a sentence)? For those windy days, do you have any softboxes? The first shot with the male subject was taken in the late afternoon, in bright sunlight/backlight, with a three-stop ND filter to allow me to shoot wide open with the Canon 135 f/2. In bright light, I used my AD200 with a H200R set at about 45 degrees to camera right as a fill light (no other modifiers). The first image of the female subject was taken in a shady location with a bright background and the H200R close to the camera axis. The AD200/H200R in a Cheetahstand Colt 45 reflector was used to shoot the second shot of the male subject from across the pool, about 25 feet away, at about 60 degrees off camera right. Can I get away with using the AD200 with the H200R and no modifiers for portraits?br>br>The second shot of the female subject is in the shade with a less well litbr>br>So, can I get away with using the AD200 with the H200R and no modifiers for portraits? Yes, I believe you are correct! br>(That's ideal for solo shoots on windy days because you don't have to worry about the entire light stand blowing over and breaking your AD200, and it's also a lot easier to transport. ) It's a bright day. There is no hotspot that I can see. The light does not appear to be harsh or hard. I've decided to purchase! Because the AD200 with the H200R is still quite small, it can be used as a grab-and-go device. Setup is quick and easy. This is a fantastic piece of equipment; get one for your AD- 200! br>br>Also, when you buy from this Amazon seller, you get your product FAST (rather than in two days). When purchasing from China on eBay, it takes 4 weeks. What's not to like about a two-day delivery of the H200R? I'm now waiting for the AK-47 to arrive. I recently purchased the R1 accessory kit (snoot, barndoors, gels, and other items that magnetically attach to the H200R).

Excellent light quality
5/5

The H200R round flash head is my first accessory for my Godox AD200. It snaps onto the original fresnel head or the bare bulb accessory head with ease. I was pleasantly surprised to see it came with a nice, carrying case. br>br>It also fits in the S bracket if you put it through and then attach the round head afterward. br>br>I was pleasantly surprised to see it came with a nice, carrying case. br>br>In my small home studio, I primarily use the AD200 light for stock and product photography, but I will be using it on location very soon as well. br>br>The H200R round head corrects the minor flaws that the original fresnel head had. It still puts out the same 200 watts as the original fresnel head, but the light quality is noticeably better, in my opinion. br>br>The fresnel head's light casts a distinct pattern, which can be quite noticeable in some applications. Because of the type of photography I do, my images may have hot spots or uneven lighting. The frosted diffusion lens on the round head produces a much more even and natural-looking light. In the photos I posted, you can see the difference. The improved modeling light is another advantage of the H200R round head over the fresnel head. While the fresnel head has a modeling light, it only has one power setting and isn't bright enough for my needs. The round head has three brightness levels and is much brighter than the square head. It's ideal for product photography, which is what I do. It may not be bright enough for some if used through a large soft box, but I find the H200R round head to be a significant improvement in my work.

(NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY), the AD200 PRO is not compatible
4/5

*** Interesting Fact *** It's unlikely that you'll ever see a photo of an AD200Pro with a H200r installed (except for Adorama's version) - It appears that problems connecting this accessory to the AD200pro are a common occurrence. Make no mistake: if you plan on connecting this unit to an AD200 pro, you should expect a lot of issues (possibly). Godox, the manufacturer, is refusing to communicate with you, and Amazon is unable to assist you in any way other than issuing a refund or offering to trade it in. If you call Adorama, they almost act as if it never happens and that they are unaware of it, despite the fact that everyone who gives this product a one-star rating says the same thing. It's possible that installing and using this accessory on the standard AD200 version will work fine. It's a crapshoot if you get one that fits if you're using the pro version. I've only ever received one piece of advice: don't force it on and don't bend the pins. br>br>* As a result, I returned the H200r to Amazon and chose to purchase the Adorama Flashpoint version (FROM ADORAMA. COM website) because they have the ONLY picture of an AD200pro (at least the Flashpoint branded version) that has been snapped on and works perfectly. br>br>WHILE THIS IS GOING ON: When I go to Adorama, a website that sells and supports Godox products, I see comments like this:br>br>Jose L I purchased the eVOLV 200 Pro set that came with the round head and it doesn't fit on the unit or another that I had previously purchased. Is there anything I'm missing? br>br>Brands@ A If you're still having problems, send an email to brands@adorama. com. combr>br>K K The round head is compatible with the eVOLV 200 and should work. Pins must be checked. Make sure the connectors are all in the right place. br>br>Erika P The Godox heads are notoriously difficult to install - You must make sure the pins are lined up perfectly. br>br>DAVID W It should fit any of the 200's, though I have found it to be a tighter fit than the other heads. Make sure the pins on the head and the flash unit are not bent. br>br>Wade S The Godox heads can be difficult to fully insert into the strobe body the first time, especially if there is a little plastic flashing around one of the posts. I'm able to withstand a lot of force. Continue to try if the pins appear to be aligned correctly. br>br>Rachael S. is a writer who lives in New York City. This is a fantastic flash head. But I ordered two, and one arrived with one of the four connectors a little shorter than the others, preventing it from connecting to the light's body. This defect was also present in the replacement, but the one I have now is fantastic.
