If you fly to Chicago and Delta Airlines smashes all of your pelican cases full of gear, you can go to a rental shop and get a replacement flashtube, or simply rent more Profoto gear, which you will already be familiar with. I use it for that reason. br>In the studio, I frequently use Paul Buff strobes, which are (literally) five times less expensive and perform identically. In addition, Buff's customer service is excellent, whereas Profoto's is atrocious. This tube is being replaced not because I burned out one, but because another professional photographer I know did, and he needed a replacement right away, so I gave him my spare. Profoto is the lighting system of choice for professionals. They've largely cornered the market, so their prices have skyrocketed, but the product is merely good, aside from being overpriced and having terrible customer service. The power and sync cords on my D1 Airs run into each other at odd and inconvenient angles due to the design. Don't be swayed by their advertising or their list of famous Profoto users, who are likely all using it for the same reason I am and are equally unimpressed with the company.
This is a "black" light, so be aware of that. There will be no UV coating, and the content will be significantly bluer than a 'normal' UV-coated tube. If you're only using one light, this isn't a problem, but if you're using it with other UV coated lights, it could be a problem if you don't use gels to correct it.
Love it. I wish these bulbs were less expensive. It was an excellent solution. Love it. I wish these bulbs were less expensive.
If your D1 500/1000 unit's bulb goes out, you'll need to replace it. This is the part you're looking for. It isn't the modeling light that is causing the problem. It isn't the housing that is causing the problem. It's only the light bulb that's the problem. It's also very easy to set up on your own. If you're having trouble finding directions, look them up on the internet. However, it is self-explanatory.
