Questions & Answers
While the answer to this question is highly dependent on your needs and preferences, I would recommend the Ring Light for video conferences because it can be used to focus on your face and upper body. The Key Lights cast light in a variety of ways, so you might need to buy a few to get the lighting you want.
When sitting directly in front of the Ring Light, shadows are minimized and a glamorous look is created, making it ideal for lifestyle content creators, makeup content creators, and others. The Ring Light comes with a Master Mount S that can hold both the Ring Light and the camera in one mount, saving even more space. First and foremost, if you're considering investing in a ring light, you should be aware of the following: You must understand how to use ring lights and when to use them. This isn't a good option for you if you wear glasses, for example. Nobody in the Elgato marketing materials wears glasses, as far as I can tell. br>br>However, this unit is quite large, and it comes in an even larger package. Elgato chose to lay everything out flat for some reason, resulting in a box that is both wide and thin. It's incomprehensible and makes dealing with it awkward and oversized. Slightly nitpicky, but box sizes usually don't come to mind, but they do in this case. The outside diameter of the ring light is 17 inches. The inside diameter is 12" wide and 10" tall (due to the base), which is three inches larger than the original Keylight. You'll be fine if you plan on using a big honking red camera, but anything else will suffice. A webcam, on the other hand, is ridiculously tiny. br>br>A mounting stand is included with the light (note: this is not included with the light). the cinch However, the ball mount on the inside of the light is not supported by the "Elgato Master Mount" system, which supports the flex arms and other features. Making the inside flex arm compatible would have cost them nothing and made the ring light WAY more versatile. Yes, it uses the standard 1/4"-inch-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness-thickness Any normal camera/tripod mounting gear should work because there are 20 threads, but the ball head they include is just. mediocre at best. br>br>The most serious flaw is their use of the standard master mount. It must be at least 17 inches tall. The ring light alone, with the ball mount that comes with it, is about 7" taller than your desk's minimum height. The camera is 23 (assuming you're using something *extremely* small, such as a webcam). 5". If you're a streamer who doesn't care about making eye contact with the camera on a regular basis, this is probably fine; however, if you're using it for more "talk to your audience" type stuff (or video conferencing), this is probably not. It's a lot more difficult because of this. Unless you're at least 6'3" tall, you'll have to get a different stand for the unit to bring it down to a more normal eye level, or just above your monitor. br>br>Overall, the light is diffused well, with no bright or dim spots visible. It fluctuates in brightness from very dim to blindingly bright. With no problems, I went from 7000k to 2900k. It performs admirably, just like the other Elgato lights, and you will not be disappointed. br>br>I would strongly advise against using this unit for any type of video conferencing, as ring lights are ineffective. Remember that you're looking into the center of a potentially blindingly bright light when you look into the camera. This would work much better for uses that are further away from the keyboard than the desk, and the height would be less of an issue.
br>br> I decided to add the ring light to my collection. So, after an hour of unboxing, I returned it. In comparison to their other lighting, the build quality has deteriorated! All of the components of the ring light are made of thin, low-cost plastic. If you attach anything else to it besides a webcam, the mount is flimsy, and the camera shakes and moves around. When I touched my desk, even a light Sony A6400 with a pancake lens shook and moved around. br>br>I also noticed that the clamp is now screwed to the mounting pole (on the key lights it is welded), which is another reason why the mounting pole and ring light are so flimsy and will shake around. br>br>This is a very overpriced ring light, but I was willing to overlook that in order to stay within the Elgato ECO system. However, the quality has deteriorated, and this thing can't handle anything more than a webcam, so I returned it. People, save your money! br>br> I'm not sure how this got four and a half stars. Elgato must be handing them out like candy in exchange for good feedback.
The light and features are fantastic. However, I have reservations about the power brick's design. It's a block about the size of a hotdog that comes with a variety of plug attachments for different country wall plugs; this seems excessive, and anyone traveling with a ring light will almost certainly bring their own converter. Apart from that, this light is intended for use at a desk. Why would they make the power brick so large and awkwardly shaped when it'll almost certainly be plugged into a power strip with other peripherals? especially when it comes to people who are concerned about cable and power distribution? Apart from that, the included stand is good and sturdy, though I wish it could be lowered further. br>br>Overall, a fantastic purchase; however, a couple of design decisions were clearly overlooked. Even so, it's still superior to others I've tried.
First and foremost, this item is incredible. Elgato is a company about which I have nothing but positive things to say. However, I bought it on January 15th, and it was reduced to $199 the next day. Between $99 and $149 Amazon is refusing to give me a $50 credit to make up the difference. I tried following the customer service rep's advice and returning it before buying a new one, but their system wouldn't let me (due to the one-per-household-item limit). br>br>As I previously stated, this product is incredible, and Elgato is one of my favorite companies. However, until Amazon credits me $50 after it goes on sale the next day, the one-star review will remain.
I can't think of anything but positive things to say about you. Extremely bright, excellent connectivity options, sturdy, well-built all-metal constructions (including the gimbals), small footprint, and even excellent packaging. If you don't want to use the included arm, the light's bottom has a standard 1/4" thread that you can use to attach it to any tripod or other arm. This was the best "single light source" light I could find as a streamer in my spare time. The purchase was a great success. br>br>One thing to keep in mind is that the distance from the table to the camera mount is about 22 inches, which isn't ideal if you're looking for something shorter.
We've bought a few for my wife's Tik Tok videos, and they're definitely the best. The majority of them are inexpensive and powered by USB. This is a substantial and high-quality piece of jewelry. We purchased the phone's mounting base and arm. Overall, it is costly, but well worth the investment. We now have over 250k followers and are continuing to grow. People frequently remark on how nice the lighting is. We even got a second one to put on the desk that we can move around. We also add side lighting with the supporting key lights.
I chose this expensive brand over Chinese companies because of the build quality, but the wireless connectivity has only worked twice after power outages and has not worked since. Because the diffusion is excellent and the brightness is adequate, I prefer to use the device's buttons rather than spend hours resetting and praying for a connection.
