Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Standard Zoom Lens

I'm not joking when I say, "I sh*t you!" This is only for those who are new to photography and are looking for their first large-format lens. I'm not going to speak to the seasoned veterans because they already know what I'm talking about. This is the lens to use whenever you need a quick fix. You can always rely on this lens if you haven't figured out your focal lengths yet or are unsure what to bring. When used correctly, it can outperform primes and replace almost all other lenses in your kit (except the 70-200mm). 200mm 2. 8 II) reducing the amount of work that you have to do. This review was originally published in April 2014 and was updated in March 2017. br>br>This is an incredible lens that will deliver in spectacular fashion if you can afford it. br>br>The 24-70mm was my first full-frame standard range zoom. IS with a focal length of 105mm and an aperture of f/4L. Only when it was absolutely necessary did I use it. Sharpness, contrast, and color depth were generally lacking in the photos taken with it. I ended up using primes in all situations that mattered - The 35L, 35 f/2 IS, 135L, or 50/1 are some of the lenses available. When I rented this lens for a trip to Utah in December 2013, all of that changed. The sharpness and color rendition in the landscapes captured with this lens as I reviewed the photos after my trip astounded me. There was no discernible difference between the shots taken with this lens and those taken with the 135L or the 35 f/2 IS, both of which I had brought with me. Finally, a standard range lens that provided the convenience of a zoom while sacrificing little or no image quality when compared to a prime. To help fund the purchase of this lens, the 105 and a few other lenses were put on sale. br>br>I've used this lens for portraits, low-light events, and landscapes since I bought it, and it's never let me down. Even at f/2, I had trouble focusing. It's quick, accurate, and decisive in AI Servo mode, and it has excellent corner-to-corner sharpness when used for landscape photography. I shot identical photographs with this and the 35mm f/2 IS for a recent project and could not see any difference in sharpness, color, and contrast between the two even at 100% magnification The new hood design and center pinch cap, as well as the lower weight compared to the previous version, are all very nice features that add to the enjoyment of using this lens. When I require an extra stop or IS, I continue to use the 35mm. For example, hand-held late-night street shots - or a small, light object; Nothing I've shot before can compare to the pure magic of portraits taken with the 135L. If you enjoy photography as much as I do, and getting the shot is important to you, the purchase price is well worth it. Notes on the image: br>br> A 5D Mark IV was used to capture the Milky Way panorama arcing over Glacier Point, the Fall color photograph, and the wide field of Orion's constellation. The Orion image was created by stacking approximately 20 minutes of 45 second subs and tracking them with an iOptron SkyTracker Pro. Mt. Fuji is depicted in this photograph. A 5D Mark III was used to photograph Mount Rainier and Seattle from the Bainbridge Ferry. This lens is ideal for landscape photography because of its exceptional corner sharpness. It's a good choice for astrophotography because of the fast aperture, though faster primes will produce better results. br>br>Additional information: The new 35mm f/1 lens, which I've recently used, is the only lens in this range that outresolves this. 4L II. That fantastically sharp lens resolves noticeably more detail in landscape photos taken with my 5D Mark IV, and it focuses just as quickly and accurately as this zoom. This is the lens to use if you want absolute sharpness and can live with a 35mm focal length. This 24-hour period has been extremely beneficial to me. I value the versatility of the 70mm more than the increase in sharpness and two stop advantage of the new 35mm, especially at its wide end, where I use it a lot. This calculus will change for specific applications like astrophotography, but those needs are infrequent enough for me to justify renting the 35mm when I need it. I've had my eye on the 24-hour room for a long time. I've wanted a 70mm lens for a long time, and I've even rented one for special occasions. Finally, I am able to justify the purchase because I have enough credit card points and bookings (family, newborn, and wedding shoots). I got it on a Saturday, put it in the camera right away, and in the following week, I shot over 1,000 images with it. With the Canon 5D Mark III in Silent Shooting mode, I can photograph newborns without making a noise that might disturb them; focus is super sharp, and the lens locks on to focus quickly with no noticeable motor noise; Alternatively, I can photograph the wedding ceremony without interfering with it. It's a hefty beast, and I was exhausted after shooting with it for several hours. I spent 6 hours at a wedding, but I'm sure I would have been exhausted even if I hadn't had this incredible lens! br>br>Because it has an 82mm filter size, none of my current filters will fit. I placed an order for a B To protect the front element, apply a W 82mm UV filter right away. It does come with a nice suede padded bag (which I'm not sure I'll use) and a pinch-proof pouch. Lens caps with a pinch mechanism on the outer edge are less likely to be knocked off. To unlatch the hood, you must also press a small button on the side. The hood can easily be reversed for indoor use. It also has a Lock, so you can lock it in the wide angle position without fear of the lens accidentally extending. (I wish my 24-year-old daughter had been born when I was younger. This was also a feature of the 105mm L lens. )br>br>The Canon 5D Mark III and 24-70mm f/2. 8L IS USM lens is a powerful combination. 70mm f/2. The Canon 8L II USM is the professional standard (at least in the Canon world). ), and I'm confident that my gear will not obstruct my creative vision during photo shoots.

The Mark5d Camera Bundle usually includes the f/4 version of this lens. I was well aware of the existence of an F/2. 8 and I really wanted to get my new collection off to a good start, so I went ahead and purchased the body of the Mark 5D Mark IV as well as this lens. I noticed that super straight objects have a sharper curve than I expected (I'll show you a picture), but I'm so new to this that I'm willing to bet it's my error. You're free to make your own decision. The clarity is incredible, and it looks fantastic on the camera's body. br>br>I keep it on all the time and am always grateful when I have to shoot something - It has been extremely beneficial to my photography.

Just wow. The quality of the photographs created with this lens astounds me. I bought the first version of this lens in 2011 and used it as my workhorse for the next few years. Now that the price of version two has dropped from its initial launch, I finally decided to upgrade, and boy, if only I had known what I had been missing all this time! The images are razor sharp, the autofocus is lightning fast, and the bokeh is silky smooth. This is without a doubt the best lens I've ever used. This is the lens for you if you're looking for a great all-around lens!.
