It was too big for my Orion xt- Other telescopes are beyond my knowledge.
It comes in a cardboard box and can also fit into a 1 gallon Ziploc bag.
Selected User Reviews For Celestron 94244 Enhance your viewing experience Telescope Filter, 8", Black
I was observing when I decided to conduct an alignment of my starfinder with the main scope, so I carefully removed the filter and stored it about the fourth time I used it (which provided excellent views and images of the sun with my Nexstar 8 se telescope). When I put the filter back on after aligning my finderscope, I was surprised to see a lot of white light glare in the eyepiece. When I removed the filter to inspect it, I discovered three pinhole light leaks that appeared out of nowhere. It worked fine at first, but the film sheeting is extremely fragile, so I had to return it.
I was hoping for a lens with some kind of glass coating. A piece of plastic is stretched across a plastic cap that fits over the telescope's end. It appears that they could have at least put the plastic on glass (or between glass, which would be even better), but I suppose the glass required for a telescope would be prohibitively expensive given its size of nearly 8 inches. br>br>The plastic appears to be extremely fragile. This could easily be scratched, rendering it useless. br>br>It is effective. I examined the sun and found it to be much smaller than I had anticipated! With an 8-inch telescope, it'll be difficult to see sunspots. But, oh well, one must learn from one's mistakes.
It's a tight fit because turning the filter onto the scope to lock it in place causes a wrinkle in the filter material, which shouldn't be happening with a filter designed to fit my 8SE.
I was a little apprehensive about using my telescope to look at the sun for the first time, but I was blown away once I did. It was the perfect fit for my telescope. I never imagined I'd be able to look at that big orange ball in the sky without spending thousands of dollars on one of those expensive solar telescopes. Being able to do that was well worth the money.
My 8" telescope was a perfect fit. After an hour of viewing, there is a good clear view with no distortion. After using my telescope, I sat it in the shade for 4 hours to cool it down. Not suitable for children who are left alone.
I enjoy watching the sun shine! There were no pinholes or defects in this filter, which was exactly what I needed for my 8SE. It's perfect, and the extra velcro straps for safety are a nice touch. The last thing I want to happen is for me to go blind!.
I gave it a shot and followed all of the directions and safety precautions to the letter. Amazing and my first time, though I attempted to mount my camera to take a photo but had focusing issues. Thank you for making it.
