The lightbox AND the lights were advertised as a package deal. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE LIGHTS, I RECEIVED EVERYTHING. Which is roughly half of the product and, depending on who you ask, arguably the most important. I called customer service and was told that I could return the product for a full refund or get a partial refund and keep the product, which was great, but I didn't like the customer service rep telling me that "I could just go out and buy lights for it. " " Not at all. At the time of purchase, the light was not sold separately, and the salesperson didn't appear to understand photography or the product - I understand, but if you advertise that you are selling a kit, please send all of the kit's components to customers. br>br>I'm not sure it would have been worth the money even if I had received the photobox itself. Even so, there were reflections. The tripod was far too small and light, almost as if it had been thrown in as an afterthought.
It is possible to improve the collection.
1. The earrings holders were filthy and had glue visible in the joints, and the black bounce cards were filthy and scratched, as if they had been used as (or with) sand paper. There are some holders that you don't know where to put, perhaps for the bounce cards. It's not explained in any of the videos.
2. The bracelet holders are glued together so that the joint is visible on both sides of the half moon's curve. That should be a continuous part material with glued joints on the bottom, so that when we place the bracelet, we don't get that dent crack in the image, which would require additional photoshop editing time.
3. The earring holders are a bit on the small side. Large earrings and necklaces are fashionable these days, so the set could include an option to accommodate them, such as making a subtle dent in the top of the necklace holders to use them instead of the large earrings.
4. Include a special cloth to keep the plexiglasses shiny and polished. br>In my opinion as a professional jewelry photographer, these props are not worth the money because of their poor finish and presentation. Remember that sets that save us time in post-production are our favorites. br>However, with a few workarounds, this can be an excellet that produces incredible results.
This is most likely one of the better products available on Amazon for this specific purpose. I did some research before ordering the MS20J Tabletop Studio, and while I am pleased with the results thus far, I am unable to give it a 5-star rating due to a few quality issues I encountered (see below). I was going to give it three stars at first, but after taking a few pictures, I changed my mind and gave it four. Despite the lack of clear assembly instructions, I was able to quickly assemble the studio and begin photographing after scrubbing the infinity background with SoftScrub. The product does exactly what it says on the tin - it works. It actually works quite well, as the images produced are of excellent quality. I'm using a DSLR and have complete control over exposure, aperture, white balance, metering, shutter speed, and other settings, so I think I'll be able to figure out the best layout/position for the props and bounce cards fairly quickly. br>br>Now, as much as I wanted to give this 5 stars, there are a couple of issues that SHOULD NOT be present in a product at this price point. br>br>Problem 1br>I am used to putting things together and prefer to follow written/illustrated instructions over videos. The instructions for putting it together are disorganized and unclear - Furthermore, the pictures in the manual are a little too dark/small, making it difficult to see details. Furthermore, the text and images are separated: All of the text is grouped together, as are all of the pictures, and there is a lot of flipping back and forth between pages. It would make a lot more sense if each step had its own set of pictures below or inline, and the instructions were clearer and more detailed. br>br>Problem 2br>The white necklace holder came without its stand (it was unglued) - This should never be the case with a $250 product! I had to go get some strong glue and spend some time gluing the stand back onto the necklace holder, which is why I only got one star. br>br>Problem 3br>When I removed the plastic diffuser from the light strip, I was EXTREMELY careful - Despite this, three tabs snapped! Again, not acceptable for a product with such a high price tag. I also misplaced a tab while attempting to replace it. The diffuser is now just a smidgeon loose! The second reason for the star's disappearance is that it is extremely vulnerable. br>br>Problem 4br>The bounce card has a slightly glossy side and a matte side, but nowhere in the instructions does it say which side should be facing the light. To achieve a better reflection, I used the glossy side. br>br>Problem 5br>The jewelry kit came with a small sealed plastic bag containing 6 squares of white material that looked like glue of some sort; there are no labels on the plastic bag, and nowhere in the instructions does it say what this was. I had to return to Amazon as a result. com to read the kit's description and discover that this was wax for holding things in place. a designation It would be beneficial to include a mention in the instructions. br>br>A little QC (quality control) would go a long way and most likely result in a 5 star rating.
I buy a lot of things on Amazon, and I rely heavily on the reviews for things I haven't seen in person. In terms of quality vs. price, the reviews for this package are mixed. The price is reasonable, and some of the included items appear to be of reasonable quality and utility. I did, however, pay for all of the items, not just a few. br>br>The watch holder appears to be quite flimsy, and I'm not sure it could hold some of the heavier men's watches. When I first opened the box, both of the earring holders' bent cardboard stands were falling off. They'd have to be re-built from the ground up. Before they could be put to use, they had to be glued together. br>br>The acrylic displays appear to be of good quality, and if handled gently, they should be able to withstand normal use. br>br>When buying this package, I would advise caution. I expect the items to be in poor condition. miss. Rather than purchasing this bargain package, consider shopping for the individual pieces you require.
