Questions & Answers
My "scratches" were caused by the plastic wrap layer that came with it. At first glance, it appeared that the surface had been scratched, but when I picked at an edge, a sheet of plastic peeled right off (much like the protective plastic sheets that come with a brand new cell phone screen). I believe the confusion stemmed from the wrap's thickness; I was almost ready to return mine because of scratches when I first saw it, but it's now all shiny and perfectly intact. My only problem is that I can't seem to get rid of the dust!

I recently purchased a 17" x 17" portable photo studio and needed a reflective surface to enhance the depth of my jewelry and craft photography. This 11. 8" x 11. 8" acrylic risers in black and white fit perfectly inside my studio and are performing admirably. They come with a protective paper covering that is a little difficult to remove, but using a hair dryer will make it easier. The black riser was used to take the photo below. These risers have exceeded my expectations, and I would recommend them to anyone. br>br>Recent changes - I've had these for about three months and the black riser has a lot of fine scratches on it. When handling these, take care not to stack the white one on top of the black one, as this will result in a lot of scratches. When wiping away fingerprints or smudges, be careful not to scratch the surface. Although they scratch easily, they are still the best I've found so far.
In defense of LimoStudio's decision to use an acrylic manufacturer that uses a paper protection liner, there isn't much they can do because this is standard practice in the sheeted plastics industry. A paper protection liner is used by acrylic manufacturers to protect the product during shipping. These companies deliver 4'x8' sheets of acrylic plastic in 250-pound increments. Pallets with a 500 sheet count. Without the paper protection liner, the sheet is more likely to be scratched during the manufacturing or shipping process as a result of friction between the sheets while they are stacked on the pallet. LimoStudio obtains the sheets in this manner and CNC routes them to the dimensions specified in this kit. br>br>With that said, here's how to remove the paper liner in one piece. To begin, peel up a 1/4" by 1" wide piece of paper from one of the corners and use it as a starter edge. Second, take your favorite hair dryer and gently warm the paper's surface by quickly moving the hair dryer over the entire surface of the paper (try the low setting first) to warm up the glue on (beneath) the paper. It will take about a minute to warm up the paper. If the paper becomes too hot, the plastic may be damaged. Third, start at the corner where you started your starter edge and peel the paper back towards the center of the piece, working this edge from the piece's outside edges (corners to center) towards the piece's center. You can definitely feel the ease with which the paper can be pulled off when it is warm (and thus the glue on its backing). If the paper starts to tear or the force required to peel the paper changes, use the hair dryer to rewarm the area. The paper will always come off in one piece if you work from the outside in toward the center. br>br>Using this method, I was able to remove all four sides of the paper in one piece with only a couple of small 1/4" tears. In this case, heat is your friend, and with a little practice, you'll be able to duplicate my success with ease.
The reflection was excellent for a first-time use - Even though I was very careful, it scratched easily. Using a soft microfiber cloth to wipe away dust particles caused abrasion on the surface, which had to be edited out in post. br>br>The material is also very brittle. Because of a slight flex in the table, one of the corners completely broke off on me. Think of your $10 as a one-time investment. You won't be able to stow this product for any travel or period of time without causing damage to the surface due to the time-use fee.
There are a lot of bubbles on the surface. br>It's fine if you're not shooting too close to your product. br>A note on the inside says you can't send it back to Amazon. br>Gives a phone number, but I didn't get a response when I asked for the bubbles to be replaced. To avoid bubbles in my reflections, I had to switch to a different substrate for my photography.
Unbelievable, terrible product; great idea, but tried everything to remove paper masking from product, including soap, water, fingernails, and so on; I've bought similar plastic sheets at home, and the film or paper masking is easily removed.

Legs are only present on the black sheet. That was not what I had hoped for. Both sheets have legs in the picture, and the description does not specify that white does not.
