Questions & Answers
I haven't decided yet. It's too small to fit into the existing mount on the back of our boat, so we bought it.
Dale, does the unit itself not turn on or does the head unit simply not work?
The remote does not allow you to take phone calls.
In addition to installing a new stereo in my boat, I also purchased one of these for the helm. After a season, I realized I needed another remote controller near the stern (inside the canvas, but close by). I know they're waterproof, but anything that's been exposed to the elements for years can eventually fail). I asked Kenwood the following questions in an email: I'm wondering how many of these remotes I can install, and I'm assuming you just tap into the blue-tooth connection. Each new control will have its own signal line. They responded by saying that you can install up to 6 of these remotes and that you do indeed tap into the blue signal line (i.e., all of the remotes splice into the same blue line that leads to your stereo). Right now, I only have two, both of which are excellent. I'm still debating whether or not to put in a third. Just make sure you're tapping into the same single blue-colored source. (e.g. a signal line) g do not connect separate signal lines to the stereo). I used to have one of these remotes outside by the swim platform on my old boat so that I could use it while standing in the water, but that was a trailer boat that I stored inside. I hope this has been of assistance.

My Kenwood RC50MR remote stopped working, and the volume would either drop to zero or increase to the point of causing eardrum pain. This remote worked perfectly as a stand-in for the original. Despite the fact that this remote's dimensions were slightly larger than the original, I didn't have to drill any additional holes because it perfectly covered the existing one. Power, Ground, Illumination, and Connection to Unit were all wired in the same way. There was one wire that was a different color than the original unit, but it was simple to identify. The unit looks nice, and it's wired up to my panel rocker, so the lighting is controlled by the panel switch. br>Operation isn't perfect; it appears that the buttons don't register every press, so I have to press the buttons multiple times to increase or decrease volume and then stop when the volume is at the desired level. The other buttons appear to function, but without a display, it's difficult to tell what they do. I only use this 99% for volume and am satisfied with the results which are similar to the unit it replaced.
I put this next to the driver's seat because I don't like having to ask my passengers to change the music or volume while we're on the road. A 3/4" mounting hole must be drilled, as well as access to the bracket from the back. It is made up of four wires - 12 volts, ground, a radio signal wire, and an 'illumination' wire for who knows what. Because the unit, as far as I can tell, isn't backlit, I'm not sure what that wire's purpose is. br>br>Installation is simple, but you'll need to supply your own wire and connectors to connect to the radio and power supply. With this remote, you can turn the radio off but not back on. Overall, I'm pleased with it, and I'm optimistic that it will last for a long time. br>br>The 12v line includes a 1a micro fuse in a small holder that must be removed in order to fit the holder through the 3/4" hole. If you happen to have a wire that fits in there and want to use it, the signal line comes with a barrel type female quick connect end. I'm not sure what the benefit would be, since the other lines don't have any sort of quick connect fitting, and you probably won't be removing the remote very often - Mine was severed.
br>If you know what you're doing, wiring is simple. Previous reviewers were perplexed as to the purpose of the Illumination wire. It's for the backlit pad's power supply. It actually looks great when lit up. I recommend connecting this wire to your boat's internal lights so that it only turns on at night when the rest of your dash lights are needed.
It specifies that this should be ordered with the 8-ounce bottle of wine. A pin wire is used to make a quick connection. I received this as a Christmas gift and attempted to install it on our boat last week, only to discover that it must be hard wired. To see if there was an adapter for this, I went to a local business that deals with Kenwood and installs audio. They examined the remote and determined that it was a refurbished unit that should have the 8-inch screen. pin! I am unable to return this item because it was ordered over eight months ago!.
The fuse fell apart while being removed from the holder, so I had to replace the fuse holder and fuse. The response time of the button is slow, but it gets the job done. I originally wanted the one with the display, but the quality reviews for that one were poor, so I chose this one instead.
I do not recommend it because it is made of a material that is not resistant to the sun or water, and it is very bad. Apart from the fact that it is not plug and play, you must decipher it for each cable, it is also a deceptive offer because it does not include the remote control connector, which means that it comes with cables stripped to be tied, once you manage to get it to work for a short time due to the fact that it does not support marine conditions. It only lasted three months.
It looks great and performs admirably. br>I only have two complaints: 1) Does not include the wire required for installation. The cable length is only about 12 inches. br>2) The "source" button will cycle through the available sources until you reach "standby. " You'll need to go up to the deck to get it out of standby once you've done that.
I finally had the opportunity to have my boat's remote installed. I bought two, but only one of them worked. We attempted to install it in the same location as the previous one, but it proved to be ineffective. As a result, I placed an order for a new one that is an upgrade. It's long past time for me to resurface. So, if you buy this product, get it installed as soon as possible so that you can return or exchange it if it doesn't work. I really like the product, with the exception of one component that isn't working.
