Caller ID information is usually not transmitted until the second ring. After the caller ID has been captured, the phone will ring once and then block on the second ring.
The one I bought ended up in the trash because I couldn't get it to work. It is not something I would advise you to do.
No, simply connect it to your phone line and, if desired, to a phone.
Area codes with numbers that aren't on the area code will be blocked.

I received it a day ago. SO FAR, THE RESULTS HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFUL. It's now up and running. For a telephone cord, I needed a longer cord. I dug through my random cables box for an hour looking for one. I'm currently using MagicJack, and the called number ID works fine (I guess VOIP service is classified as a "land line" nowadays. ) No name appears. I was under the impression that the time and date would be displayed automatically. set up in the same way that simple caller id boxes are set up. No luck. There appears to be a procedure for doing so, but I've had no luck so far. ***A Google Voice number was used to make the call. After that, the number was BLOCKED. When I called the next time, the call was QUICKLY ENDED after only one ring! (All of my equipment is connected in series, with a TelPal Call Blocker connected to the MagicJack unit's "telephone line out. ") I've never heard the ring on my MJ line! It would be difficult to establish a parallel connection. ) With all the election ads and scammers calling multiple times a day, it appears that we may once again have peace in our home. The only way to find out is to wait.
I'm a computer whiz, but I couldn't get the year to go past 2019. This isn't a significant problem. I bought it for my parents, who are in their mid-sixties and early-seventies, and they had a hard time operating it. By accident, they continued to block my number. The issue is that you must return to the calls in order to block them. Simply press the block key. It's difficult to explain what I'm talking about, but you can easily block a number by accident. My parents were enraged, and they disconnected and discarded the device.
It irritated me that it was unable to provide the caller's name. If I don't know whether the call is a sales call or not, I have to answer it to see if I need to block it for the next time; I don't want to answer a call just to figure out if it's a sales call.
I quickly realized that it only gives you the caller's phone number, not their caller ID (name). I made the mistake of assuming that this device would provide all of the Caller ID information that I pay ATT for on a monthly basis. As I packed it up to return, I'm not sure if this unit blocks unwanted calls or not. The display, on the other hand, is quite large. bright.
I received this item on time, and it was exactly what I was looking for, and it was displayed in the manner in which it was advertised.
I am pleased with my purchase. The device is simple to set up and use. Blocks performs admirably on phone calls. Thank you very much!.
If it weren't for issues with Cox Cable's new phone and internet all-in-one modems, this unit would be fantastic. With the old system, I only had it for a short time, but it seemed to work fine. Then Cox upgraded my modem so that it could handle both internet and phone calls instead of having to enter the lines into the house separately. It would then lock up on certain numbers, requiring you to physically unplug the phone line from it in order for it to reset, which erased all of the data. I'm not sure if they were aware that this would happen, so they reduced the price to unload them. I wish there was a fix for this because it was a good working unit that did everything it was supposed to do. Now I have to look for a new one that will work with Cox Cable's new all-in-one modem.
This method is ineffective.
