The ridges and grooves on the pulleys on the printer fit into these grooves. Unlike the belt that came with your printer and that you are trying to replace with this aftermarket copy, the one they are selling here only has ridges on it. There are NO grooves in it. The machine also comes with a plastic pulley you'll be using instead of the one that's currently in the machine in order to compensate for the lack of grooves in the belt. It isn't worth it to spend 2 hours replacing the belt, another hour to run the secret hidden diagnostic tests that you have to run before HP will let you use your machine again, only to find that the belt does not Worse still, it looks like it works but actually causes blurry images to be printed because the printer is off just enough to cause it. Can I save $40 just so I can save $20? Thank you, but no thanks! I will order the OEM belt directly from HP and make sure I do it right the first time around!.

It lasts a long time and it does not feature the smooth belt style found on OEMs. It still works fine, but if I got 2 years out of it, it would be unuseable by then. I don't expect it will last 5 years, but for the price and age of the plotter it shouldn't be more than 2 years old. Please be aware An installation is not for the faint of heart. There is a great deal of disassembly involved. Currently working on a new book Because I'm an HP Tech, the whole process was fine, and there were some shortcuts I took, but if you've never done it before, look up some youtube videos, Doing so will prevent you from making a rookie mistake.

This belt was excellent replacement for the busted original belt. However, it is a replacement belt that is exactly the same as the one that came with it, and the pulley that came with it can be used. Our machine came with an original belt and pulley that were slightly different due to the groove designs on the belt and the pulley being smaller to compensate for the different groove designs.

The gear teeth on one side are not made like the original belt. In the original, the motor turns only where teeth are present. This belt is much louder than the original belt. It works well and costs less than the original belt.
