However, I haven't tried it out in the open, and it seems like it wouldn't be appropriate for use outside.
In short, yes.
The cable sleeve will remain round and you would have to secure it with zip ties or something similar. A thicker cord is better suited to this environment.

Cable covers like this are easy to use and stay in place when not in use. A lot of the cords slide down.
It was easy to install the item once it arrived. Apparently, it blends in really well with the wall's white paint.
The design is good. In my experience, I've used many different types of cable wrap and this type is the most easy to use and has the best appearance. This was used as a cover for cables that ran to a ceiling mounted projector there were plenty of options for power, audio, USB, and HDMI connections.
Cable sleeves are used to cover the wires originating from outdoor gate openers. To insert the wires, all I had to do was open the sleeve. There's just enough slack in the sleeve to secure the cord and close back up. There was a much cleaner result as a result The installation looks great. Taking the sleeve off is quite easy. I ended up inserting one section of one sleeve into the side of another section, so I could hold the incoming sleeve with the "outer" sleeve. With the sleeves having survived their first summer in Phoenix with no noticeable effects from the heat or sun, I have a strong recommendation.
I am impressed by your work.
I like it and it works! I love the fact that the cords are tucked into the case and that it takes less than 5 minutes to do. It was only half the length that I needed, so I cut it in half with regular scissors. I like its softness while still being sturdy, flexible, and of good quality. Even though it's more utilitarian than pretty, it's much better than hanging cords that are twisted up.
I like this product because it has no exposed wires, and it is simple to use.
Controlling the Xbox cables behind the TV with this worked well for me. According to the plan, it works.
