Why is it that the seller is unable to provide clear dimensions for the cutout on the outside and inside? , which is a waste of everyone's time.?

I'm not sure why, but these dimensions might be useful: 5 3/4" wide by 4 13/16" tall. Use these as a starting point for your research. That measurement is taken from the backside of the cover plate, so it should be sufficient for the cutout. Good luck with your endeavors.

Is this going to fit in a rough opening that's 4 1/2" wide by 5 3/8" tall?

No, the rough opening is 4 13/16" H X 5 3/4" W and requires a minimum depth of 1 1/8".

Since the 1980s, it's most likely been the same one. So disgusting. It took a lot of effort to remove the old one, but installing the new one was a breeze. And the old stud holes are perfectly aligned.

They are no longer constructed in the manner in which they were previously. It's made of thin material that will rust much faster than the original from the 1970s. Because local stores no longer carry them, seeing them available online is extremely convenient.

This is not a square! This item will not fit into a 5x5 opening! Most bathtub openings are square, but this one isn't

It's approximately four. 5 inches high by 5 inches wide It's 5" wide, and one of the nice things about it is that it's not very deep (it doesn't go all the way into the wall)- Only an inch or so. However, if I used the pre-cut pieces for my 5x5 wall opening, there would be a significant gap at the top and bottom. The support beam was drilled with holes. br>br>This isn't a standard size.

I'm overjoyed that this fit perfectly into the empty space in my 1960's bathroom. The new standard is slightly larger, as others have pointed out. This smaller size is extremely difficult to come by. br>br>I used caulk to seal it in place. In comparison to the previous one, which was filthy and damaged, this one looks fantastic. So happy!.
